If Alperen wants to start, he should throw some food at Lucas, curse in English at Silas and in protest, leave the arena and drive off as Silas tells him to sub in. [IMG]

Id like to see the replays of the Alpi between the legs pick/pass attempt to the guards.

I think they all failed lol, but they all looked "possible". The last attempt to EG in particular. EG was like "OMG, WTF!!!" hands in the air... and watching it you were kind of thinking, EG... just keep running off the pick and get the pass and drive in.

In other words, the play should/can work... assuming they practiced it or had any kind of chemistry.

But last night no one appeared to have chemistry with anyone.

I think it was just too cute of a pass at the wrong time. The last one was like when we were trying to mount a come back, to cough up a turnover and free points like that is demoralizing.

I think we need Sengun to come off the bench, he does not fit with Porter and Green, defense liability and he is not very athletic. However, he is a very good post up player and a nice passer but he needs to stop his “cute passing”. I think his outside shooting is better and he could win the 6th Man award this year, but he does not work well with the fast pace of Green and Porter.

He is a developing 2nd year player, he is not Hakeem - nor an all star, he is just a good developing center. And he has certain skills which don't get used in a guard attack the rim offense, so moving him to the 2nd unit will up his production, keep him engaged, and let him develop his other skills.

    This is a win win.

He doesn’t work with Porter. He works fine with Green.
Also, this defensive liability thing is just not accurate.

Again, think you're hallucinating here, I'm not nor have I ever been a massive KPJ fan, feel free to check my history. Nice try though I guess? Y'all really are either illiterate, or not that bright.

I wasn't thinking that at all. I was thinking "flashy passes are only worth it if you make them. Otherwise it's style without substance."

His hand offs are actually very good. He puts the ball not directly to the guard but in his running path and a foot away from his body, creating space and allowing the guard to gain speed advantage. Between the legs is another way to create an advantage. The weird thing is how come they look like two guys who just met in a pick up game.

    Basically...

IF the team is projecting Alpy as our starting center of the future - then lets get on with it and figure out how to make it work - endure the 'growing pains' now and iron out the difficulties...

Personally... that wouldnt be my plan - but i dont view Alpy as a future starter (gasp -lol)... my targets for the offseason are an upper level center and game managing pg... slotting KPJ as 6th man and Alpy as the first big off the bench.... ????/Bari/Tari/Green/???? ....then KPJ/Alpy/JC... for base 8 man rotation... so I dont see Alpy as our starting center of the future - nor KPJ as a championship team pg....
So if they've already decided slotting Alpy into that 2nd unit (with the intent on upgrading Bruno in the offseason) is the plan - fine... i just didnt realize the team had already downgraded Alpy to a 2nd unit future - esp based on the level of hype he gets on here... lol!

Imo... at this point its all about long term goals and positioning us for the future - not stopgaps and temporary fixes... thats why i have no issue leaving holes in our roster this year - give the minutes to the kids development...

I think he can make adjustments and learn to play off ball and then he'd fit better with Green and KPJ.

If he has to have the ball in his hands on every possession, he'll have to come off the bench.

I'm with that... its just... he KEPT trying them. Like... surely this is something he was doign regularly in practice... s
    see my comment below

For sure, but flashy or not, if the ball hits the other dude in the hands, or would have if the other dude didn't just stop entirely, its a good pass

So th EG one came with 7:04 left in the 4th quarter. On the Hawks feed on league pass it is at 1:37:17 - mobile wont let me screenshot it and desktop its not working right now.

So my point is, the pass is LITERALLY RIGHT AT EG's hand. But EG isn't expecting the pass or really looking, so even though the pass is legit right to his hand, he makes no attempt at it and Murray snatches his hand through to poke it away.

To me it was a turning point for sure, and disappointing.

But bigger picture, again, he tried it multiple times, almost every time it seemed as if the guard was NOT expecting it and that was the main reason it resulted in a turnover.

So my problem isnt with the pass or fanciness of it in any way, its with - have they been running this in practice or not? If not, yeah, once fine, or talk about it on the bench or something... ultimately just stop trying. OR, mind blowing idea, just do a NORMAL dribble/PnR hand off (looks like would have worked).

BUT ALSO.... why does NO ONE expect Alpi to pass them the ball, ESPECIALLY on outside of the paint PnRs and dribble hand-offs, when that's what he does? Whether its that, or the guy who constantly does expect it, KMJ, NEVER finishes the plays??

End of day, Alpi can't make that pass since it seems like it wasnt working and i can only assume since no one expects it they dont practice it but idk.... something is odd.

Yes, this exactly also describes what i was trying to describe above.

The random lose the ball turnovers that he AND KPJ had last night, un-excusable. The one turnover he had backing in where at first i was like wtf was that call but watching again at the end he did a quick strong off arm hold off/wrap around that was clearly offensive, GOT to stop those.

But there were like 2/3 of these handoff/between leg to's, and again, i guess he should stop doing them, but the ball was correctly placed...

So i got it to work. @apollo33 @Dobbizzle

Its even worse, EG WAS looking at the ball and STILL did not make ANY ATTEMPT TO GET IT.

The ONLY reason this is a turnover is because of EG, and then he threw a fit about it. Its like wake up bro. If he grabs that ball and does his great dribble drive in, its 2 and/or a foul.

Exactly, there were a couple of those that were on the guards.
Shouldn’t have even been attributed to Alp.
Even still, he needs to not be so sloppy

I feel sorry for Alpy, a real coach would make it work.

Get over it. KPJ made a mistake, he is arguably the best player on the team ATM - I am sure you made some mistakes at 19-20 you regret.

blaming that turnover on EG is a massive stretch…stop it

Sengun tried a lazy bounce pass with Murray right there…it was easy to pick off

I’m starting to see a trend where any bad play of Sengun’s gets excused away…now we’re giving his turnovers to other players

Gordon as the 3rd in backcourt keeps a veteran leadership on the floor at all times when the starting line up isn’t.

Martin & Fernando as a starters defines their roles on the team. If he plays 15 to 20 minutes or so, filling the roll of nothing but steady play. Martin by keeping the ball moving, takes the open shot, help the helper & back side shot blocking. Fernando by setting strong picks and screens, rolling, rim running, rebounding, rim protection. What’s not to like? He just needs to be himself as secondary player and play within himself. Is he a top 5 player on the team? NO. Them starting sets the rotation as players better than them can be the focus as others set. ==> Eason & Sengun

I believe that sengun should start . And he will start by game 30 or 40 . I’d say sooner , but Bruno looked good last night .

it’s important to show sengun , Literally in his face , that the team can play with a PnR and lob guy (who are a dime a dozen ) . And it can be efficient .

Fernando made excellent passes on the short roll .

Sengun HAS to demonstrate the same decision making and workman like attitude about it . He’s a bit flashy .

sengun has a bit of an ego . That’s good . But he is still young .

He needs to get faster . Which is tough . He runs so upright and it takes him a while to get up and down the court .

keep your head down and keep working . The opportunity will come and handle success with grace .

I do not believe the rockets PT distribution has favored him , and frankly I think it’s rubbed him the wrong way . It’s probably rubbed other guys the wrong way too . Kmj , we know . My guess is JC and garuba got frustrated at times as well .

JC was outplaying green at the beginning of the season yet green was heavily favored .
Sengun was the 16th pick yet we definitely prioritized Christian wood over him despite ample evidence.

22 min for him was ok . I’d like more , but we will see as the season goes on .

imo they are limiting his mins because he is big . The rockets like to ease young bigs into in Jabari played 32 , but I bet he ends the season under 30 ... or we load manage him , or he missed time . He won’t play 82 and 32 .

think how we brought along capela .

Not only PT but also style of play has been designed to help maximize green and porter. Hey , it’s a guards league . Maybe smith and Eason and sengun can change that a bit .

I wanna see what we do when we get Tate back . Are we already tanking ?

If Tate starts I think sengun will too .

We can stagger green and kpj and lob it up on second units .

But maybe that’s too much of a winning strategy
