Baseball also typically plays on 90% of the days, which they do not do in the post season. At least they got it right this year with the five consecutive game days in the LCS. All this stuff we always have to see where Chris Sale gets to pitch in 4 of the games in a series would be squashed if they played on 7 consecutive days or at very least 7 of 8 with no off days between series. That would imitate a real baseball atmosphere. There is no other sport where you get to post season and all the sudden the entire concept changes .You don't even need a 5th starter, maybe not a 4th. Those are things that make a team good or bad in the regular season. What if a team was really good in the NBA be sure they have a second unit nearly as good as their first, then in the playoffs you decide to go to six 5 minute quarters with 20 minute breaks between. Likely wouldn't even need a second unit at that point. MLB should look for ways to make the post season be like the regular season. Also the format should be 3-3-1. There should be er be a time when if the home team wins every game then the higher seed would be down in the series ..and the higher seed has to have game 7 at home.
The postseason setup is fine the way it is to me. Bums like the Yankees need to catch up with the modern era and get a roof. Their scheduling is off because they failed to take care of business and can’t afford to cover their stadium. That’s on them
The worst was Ricky suddenly learning how to hit once he was with the Cubs. Also hated that they didn't start Bogar over him because Bogar could at least field the damn ball.
My only lasting memory of Ricky Gutierrez was a game against the Indians where he saw 20 pitches. It's the longest AB I've ever seen. He just kept fouling stuff off. Over and over. Near the end he started grinning like an idiot in between pitches because the whole thing felt so bizarre. I think in the end he finally K'd. I vaguely remember he had some nice postseason homers too (he wasn't a huge power guy from my recollection), but that 20 pitch AB sticks in my mind moreso than anything. Edit: Did a search and found the video of the AB. Forgot that the whole thing took over 10 minutes for Bartolo Colon to finally strike him out. Both Gutierrez and Colon were grinning in between pitches.
My friend who played in the league for the Angels thinks Pena ends up having a Manny Ramirez type of career. Very high on him. Will be interesting to see. Also tidbit: He mentioned this morning he was talking to Donaldson last night. Told my bud he was completely lost at the plate. Obviously the eye test correlates it, but just sharing some cool inside stuff I get from time to time.
If Vazquez isn't a back up catcher, then we should play him at DH one of these games. Desperate times.
You want to play the guy with a 0.585 OPS as an Astro as the DH? I'd think you'd start Hensley if you didn't trust Mancini or Diaz.
I had them sweeping both series but go on. I'm just telling you don't be surprised when Dusty does it and it's a good move with Diaz and Mancini struggling.
he isn't wasting his only backup catcher in the DH spot who hasn't even done anything to warrant it anyway
Most expensive stadium in baseball (by a considerable margin), and yet no roof. Citi Field cost $900M. Really no good explanation for that difference. Even if you built it to last 100 years, and Citi Field was built for 30 years, you'd have been better of with Citi Field.
