To be succinct, this is the tweet I just sent Jonathan Feigen:

    @Jonathan_Feigen
aren't player barefoot heights certified annually, per 2019 decree? NBA.com change since last year on website: Christopher and Sengun +1". And Jabari listed 6'11". Changed from draft combine: KMJ and Dix +1"; TyTy 6'2.25" to 6'3". Real? Fake?

I remember the NBA saying that height measurements can no longer be fudged; you have to report the real heights of the players. I think OP is asking if that is no longer the case.

I didn't know they ever stopped being fake? I'm pretty sure it's all still fake. The only heights that are real are the draft combine heights, but obviously a lot of players grow after those. I don't think any reliable source exists post-combine. Anything from the teams is WWE stuff.

@Clutch I'm sorry I wasn't clear. Since you had the measurement of Jabari, I thought you might have some insight into this.

Before the 2019 season, the NBA instituted a new rule requiring that teams annually measure the players' height without shoes and certify them (and their ages - Marc Stein said that Buddy Hield revealing he was a year older than listed is what prompted this change). You can Google NBA certify player height and you'll see articles. This is why Jalen was listed at 6'5" on every website until the end of the last preseason when his height was changed to 6'4" on NBA.com and everywhere else.

I went on NBA.com the other night and notice that a bunch of heights had changed since they were certified last year, e.g. Sengun and KJM are now listed as an inch taller. TyTy is listed at 3/4" growth since he was measured at the combine. I didn't check everyone, but just put the details in that tweet I sent Feigen. I was wondering whether our very young players had all grown (not impossible) or whether the NBA height listenings were fake again.

For a league where the physical measurements of an athlete is considered to be one of the core aspects of player evaluation, it makes no sense for the imperial system of measurement to still be used.

A 6 ft 8 and 1/2 inch athlete is effective listed as 6 ft 9, and a 6 ft 9 and 1/4 athlete would also effectively be listed as 6 ft 9. However, there is a small but noticeable difference in height between the two (nearly 2cm).

Do we really need multiple threads on how tall players are?

    Good grief.

I dont really believe the heights.

Sengun is supposed to be 6'11 with shoes well look at him and footage of Banchero and say they are both similar in height.

If Banchero was a Rocket they would say he is 7 ft now.

Alp was same height as Capela, he looks taller and broader. Jabari looks tall, but a lot of that is because he’s lean. He wasn’t much taller than John Collins.
Alp and Jabari are within a 1/2 inch of each other in height

But thats how you know the height is wrong cuz it lists them both as 6'11.

Same thing with Green and KPJ how can they both be 6'6 when KPJ is clearly taller than Green?

KPJ and Green is weird to me, I’ve seen them standing together at different times and each has looked taller than the other lol

Yeah, guys on this chat board who can look at players from various angles and distances and tell the difference between 6’10” and 6’11” uh, well, that’s some great vision you have. Especially how your laser eyes can cut through hair to see exactly the peak of the skull.

Speaking of lasers, I once met a guy who was creating an app that used light and the camera and GPS and an algorithm to make measurements. They used it for bridges and other structures so they could measure something and come back three years later to see if the bridge had moved by a centimeter or two. This tool was used because the eyes of these structural engineers are not nearly as sharp as that of NBA fans.

And as noted above the heights listed on NBA.com are supposed to be the height without shoes.

Anyway, I propose the death of this thread as clearly nobody can answer my initial question. I was just wondering if clutch or someone else had the scoop on this.
