I have been one of Silas’ biggest critics, but I have to say tonight was one of his best coached games ever. Starting Bruno was bold and a GREAT move. Bringing KMJ off the bench for significant playing time another good move, along with making Christopher the backup PG and not that suckwad Nicks. Atlanta is a finals contender and we held with them throughout on the road. Defense was good and we actually made free throws!!! Need to work on improving turnovers, but Rome wasn’t built in one day. If they keep playing this lineup we’ll be contending for a playoff spot very soon. Encouraging and fun first game and hope Silas keeps this rotation!!!

Silas rotations are ass as usual. what are you talking about?

instead of staggering Jalen and KPJ's minutes he ran EG as the backup PG

    Stagger Jalen and KPJ's minutes

Run KPJ with Bruno and run Jalen with Sengun (KJ and Gup)

    Play Tari and Bari together

    Stop playing Gary Matthews.

Other than starting Bruno with the first unit, I didn't see anything positive. When I watch the half court sets, I hardly get a feeling that this team is coached. Talent is abundant but no coaching. The line up with no pg was special. Honestly, I thought the title was sarcasm.

Agree with EG….as he’s over the hill, but the only veteran out there. Agree with Mathews to. Didn’t say Silas was a good coach, just that this was one of HIS best coached games to date. He’s had some mind boggling bad games, so let’s be hopeful that he keeps them competitive this year.

The hawks might not even make the playoffs themselves and they are clearly a level ahead of the rockets

This team is as sad as ever

Atlanta made the ECF in 2021. They looked good against the bucks before Trae got hurt.

now they added an all star in dejontay Murray - they’re in the mix.

How many years have you spent on a NBA coaching squad?

I think EG as backup PG was the right move under the circumstances. He is much more secure than Jalen dribbling the ball, and although not great at it, our best option to bring the ba over half court with Nix, TyTy and Tate out.

You also wants Jalen catching the ball with dribble available at the 3 point line.

In this particular scenario you think Jalen. I think Ego.

Even if the Hawks are only the 8th seed, we were still the worst team in the NBA for back to back seasons. They are clearly better than us and playing at home.

We are young and will lose due to dumb mistakes. Scapegoating a player or coach won't fix that

Silas thought this was another preseason game. He’s just tinkering with lineups and I guess I can’t be mad

Really? Best coached? Team lost! End of story. The big three only scored 54 out of 56 shot attempts! That may be a record of some sort. Therefore, benching Sengun did not help the starters. Sengun had 6 TO in only 22 minutes of gameplay, so this move did not help him. He got dismotivated and probably felt cheated on, since he was told he was the starter, yet he was not given the chance for even one game. Team lost, so his strategy did not help the team. They looked like headless chickens and Silas did not make the adjustments in time. He should have subbed JG in much earlier, and finished the game with Sengun.

I like and understand 80% of what I saw last night and that is a drastic change from season’s past. I saw the outline of a team trying to compete. The blueprints are there and it was worth the wait. Coaching is putting players in winning situations and that happened. More Tari & Bari and positive things will happen organically. Help the helper -> backside defense was our biggest problem. The Hawk’s backcourt carved is up. Overall liked what a saw from the Rockets.

Young players make boneheaded mistakes. Level those things out, and you have a Rockets team that would have outscored that Hawks team out there. Coaching can do some of the legwork to getting young players to stop making those mistakes, but the bulk of it comes from a.) recruiting veteran leaders on the court to hold the youth accountable, a la Chris Paul his first year in PHX; and b.) those young players simply getting older and sick of losing all the time.

I would give Silas a long leash with this team. We certainly look feistier than last year, and will catch any number of teams trying to autopilot their way through a game with us.

Silas is a good coach for a rebuild because he relates well to the kids but if you have a team ready to compete he is not the right guy because he is not a great tactician coach. Bad rotations, poor play calling and so on…

Ultimately once these young guys in a few years get ready to compete Silas is not your guy

I really don't understand why Matthews made the cut let alone is playing in our rotation.

His lineup was a mess. The offence was putrid. He tried to be the good guy and plays everybody, but playing 11, 12 guys sporadic minutes is going to work. There’s a reason why most teams have a 9-man rotation. 3 seasons discombobulated basketball. Enough is enough.
