Good luck this series friends. I love my yankees, but not sure how they will do after this past series. Pushed to game 5 and then the rain out days, I just don't know. I hope it's a good series. Once again good luck
All it would take is for two fans to talk about every article that is written to make this true. There's a whole lot more of us than of them.
Looking a bit closer at Verlander's start vs the Mariners: M's were very patient in terms of playing small and accepting base hits vs. HR Can the Yanks do the same? 15 of their 20 ALDS runs were generated via the HR. Not sure they can change their hitting philosophy so dramatically to take advantage in the same way. Verlander normally excels in limiting baserunners with the occasional solo HR. Verlander was having uncharacteristic problems with control. The long layoff may have contributed to this (7 days in between starts) Its been 8 days since Verlander's Game 1 start. This could be problematic if he starts letting on guys like Torres and Bader in front of the Yankee big bats as he is prone to the long ball. I think Verlander comes out with much more focus and control this time around as its now the heart of the playoffs vs. coming off a meaningless regular season start. Maybe he gives up 2 solo shots. I think the Astro bats crush Taillon who might be feeling the jitters in his first postseason, blowing Game 2 of the ALDS and pitching in his hometown (Woodlands). Speaking of Bader, the guy crushed 3 homers in the ALDS after hitting 0 in the regular season. Hopefully his regression happens in this series.
Given Hensley and Diaz's flexibility, and the fact that we aren't likely to pinch hit for any of our infielders, I would have rather kept Meyers. If nothing else just to assure Dusty can't put Dubon in a spot he doesn't belong. Neither move is particularly important one way or the other.
I expected Martinez to be added. Even more with the Hicks injured. I was hoping it was Dubon removed buy this is what I expected.
Key to this series is keep the ball in the yard. Yankees were # 1 in HRs in the regular season and that’s how they beat Cleveland. Really concerned about JV and his propensity to give up a dinger or two.
As customary for every Game 1 playoff series, I won't be watching nor listening .. I'll be checking in periodically on here, so bring that energy to your posts my fellow Cfers!. Let's do dis
We've been repeatedly told that the roster, especially in the postseason, is a front office decision, so maybe it's not just Dusty and instead the front office also likes Dubon a lot.
Dubon is a better defensive IF than Diaz/Hensley except 1B. If anyone gets hurt, he should be the sub in games with the lead. Considering Meyers hasn't shown much with the bat, I would have seen Dubon not making the roster to be a huge slap in Dusty's face. I do not see it the other way, though, as Dubon should be the better roster fit provided he is used correctly.
