I remember in elementary school they would play the Oilers fight song on Fridays on the intercom and we would march around in class. It's slightly insane when I think about it, but the city was *crazy* about that team. The devotion to the Bum Phillips/ Earl Campbell era Oilers by Houston was real and incredible. It was shocking to me when they left for Tennessee.

Cal probably hired an image consultant to repair the tarnished Texan brand and people's perception of him as an owner which is why he's doing things like this including that Reddit AMA. It's pathetic.

I'm perfectly fine if he did hire a PR specialist to help him, that's normal and definitely not pathetic. All of it will be meaningless if he doesn't commit to truly make the team better and win, not just run a church choir.

The best thing Cal could do for the franchise and himself is to stay out of the limelight and any decision making processes.

That'll definitely help him in his next coaching search.

I think that would be a huge hire to bring fans back.

If Lovie starts to win and make this team respectable, why would you get rid of him? For some shiny OC/DC that will probably fail (most of them do) or a college coach that probably will fail (Rhule, Kingsbury). Some of you have "grass is always greener...." syndrome. Dusty Baker has now made it to the same amount of ALCS' as Hinch (so has Click), but many on this board want him gone because they don't like his lineups in the regular season. They ask why not replace Yuli with Mancini? Vasquez for Maldy? Guess what? Now they see why...in the post season. Point being, why not wait to see how things play out before you go off half-cocked?

I think it would be the most Texan thing ever if they get the fan bases hopes up by firing Easterby, and then screw it all up by hiring McCown as head coach...

What evidence have you seen that things will magically turn the season around?

I do appreciate your eternal optimism though.

McCown was Never Easterby’s boy. You don’t fire him if you are interested in McCown.

Have you not watched games? The team is much more competitive. The issue has been at QB. You can see Mills playing a little better. Remember, this roster needs alot more.

So you think Cal got on a plane to Phoenix thinking he was going to Detroit and ended up in San Diego all by himself? These are the things people like Easterby do, seed their ideas. I don't get why you have to defend these guys. We all have people we've liked and they turn out something they did not appear . For me, Deshaun getting baptized in Israel! " Wow, we all need to be like Deshaun!" That didn't go so well. You move on. Hannah made Cal wise up. I even saw Cal with some fitted pants.

Late in his 17-year playing career, McCown made it clear that he had coaching aspirations and many around the league have said he would make a good coach, but most thought he would need a little experience first. He got his foot in the door with the Texans because of his friendship with Texans executive vice president of football operations Jack Easterby.

Again, just thank the football gods for sending Brian Flores and his lawsuit our way and throwing a wrench plus the hammer of Thor to any plan Easterby had going.
The only reason I liked the Lovie hire was because I knew he would not stand for Easterby prancing around the sidelines putting his hands on players offering to pray.

The media guys have jobs they want to keep and for the most part the Houston media is more interested in keeping jobs than causing issues. A lot of these guys have been in Houston a long time and don't really care to move. Someone like Easterby could destroy their career.

People get away with terrible things every day.

Yes, Watson sexually assaulted numerous women....... Warren Moon beat his wife...... Maybe a current QB on the roster will do something terrible too, I don't know.... but this idea that he isn't guilty because he isn't in prison is nonsensical.

No, the idea of a so-called criminal getting paid millions after being found guilty of sexual assault is nonsensical. You and I would have been in jail and raped multiple times by now.
