So you actually think this is being driven by the KPJ fan club?

Not the people who are doing everything to discredit the contract he signed?

    Interesting.

so the guys who wanted KPJ extended are happy that he got extended
the guys who didn’t want him extended are happy because the extension is skimpy
everyone is mad because the others claim they are happy

more b****ies and drama queens here than in a all-girl high school in the Valley

I think the interesting thing is that those referred to as the "KPJ fan club" are merely those who expressed an accurate prediction of his value. Apparently that's enough to put someone in a "fan club".

It just makes the board worse - if you really want to say anything, just put it in your sig...that way it is there all the time and you don't need to say it.

BTW - I am hardly mild mannered, I got banned for a year for being an ******* - who would not let crap go- got to read a lot that year on here, and realized I was making it worse.....so now choose to just put people on ignore - if they add no value to the conversation.

Happy to discuss or argue points, but when it gets personal - it is time to walk away, if you wouldn't be a friend of that person in real life it is not worth the time online either.

The KPJ fan club members are the ones posting memes and tweets.... with the "I told you so" theme when really this is great deal for the Rockets more so KPJ. It's not entirely the same situation but Colin Sexton got ~$70 million guaranteed compared to KPJ's ~$15 million but it does give one insight into KPJ's value.

I've always said don't extend him unless you can get KPJ to accept a team friendly deal.... which we did. I feel pretty vindicated with the results.

It's not discrediting KPJ by pointing out he just isn't viewed as a strong asset by the league and this contract bears that out.

His happiness and positive state of mind appears to be genuine and I think he believes and understands that the Rocket organization has been a tremendous help to his growth as a player and human being.

    Win/win

I have no idea how posting a meme or tweet makes anything different from what the KPJ detracters are doing and most of the KPJ "fanclub" were wanting a contract in the exact range he signed at.

He got a contract comparable to Sextons and I don't think anybody wanted him to be guaranteed the same way.

I don't understand why you feel vindicated when most people wanted exactly what you did, maybe I am missing something here or you are talking about some specific posters?

Anyway, it's not that big a deal and all of this I told you so is unnecessary from both sides IMO, especially since nobody is going to admit they got it wrong.

Honestly, I wish all our contracts were structured in the same manner.

If that date comes and the team picks up the option years, that probably means Porter outplayed the contract and that's a good thing for Rockets fans.

    Spin that.

The thing I don't really hear anyone mention when talking about KPJ's "past" is how it effects the team. The main concerns is will he be heading to jail or is he messing up the vibe. I don't see him heading to jail, it looks like he has learned what is stupid and not. I am not sure what NBA's policies are if a player is incarcerated during season and if Rockets can get out of the contract but either way I don't see that happening.

So the main concern would be is KPJ's situation effecting the team. I would say he seems pretty well liked. I doubt he effects the culture or vibes. KPJ's past doesn't really concern me nor does his halftime spat last year. Wood to me seemed far more problematic than KPJ. My main concern is if he can just handle the role and we will see at the end of the year. Preseason has me optimistic because he looks a lot better.

    Overall good contract.

That’s fine, and I disagree about who is doing the most gloating.

I mean… if you are comparing just the first year. I’d argue Sexton got a much more player friendly contract.

That’s okay, you are just jumping in the middle. Like I said, this is a very good contract for the Rockets and tells you what the league thinks about KPJ which is less than what some of his biggest fans think.

Lol. You're completely clueless. I almost exactly called his value. You thought he was going to get max money after the season

Agree, Morey treated every GM as an opponent it seemed when negotiating, its intimidating for an opposing GM if that is the nature of the talks, its like you are playing Poker against them and trying to beat them, vs. being transparent with what you want and both sides being happy. Morey's tactics likely earned him some enemies and teams that probably preferred not to work with him.

I am not sure what it is that Jerry West has, or what his approach is/was that lead to success, but its interesting that high BB IQ on court does not necessarily translate to being successful as a coach or GM. Lebron is probably one of the highest IQ players ever, I can understand him not knowing how to plan and manage a salary cap or negotiate, but most NBA players seem to be awful at understanding what they need around them to be successful. They tend to want to build teams on friendship or some incorrect evaluation of talent. The only time recruiting works is when the player(s) are so talented fit is not that big of a concern in short term because their raw talent overcomes everything. These types of teams do not last long though.
