There are 22 players in the entire NBA who shot 40% or higher on threes last season. Only one of them could be considered a center (Towns). But there must be 28 other starting centers...
Yes, after cooling off from the initial excitement, I agree with this view. I still don’t believe he’s a winning player. I hope his development doesn’t come at the expense of other young players.
Ya but sengun sucks on defense, and is a center. Those guys are VERY hard to have starting and still surviving. He has to be absolutely elite on offense, and for him a big part of that would be the shooting.
But he doesn't suck on defense. His steals and blocks are higher than most other big men's. He is a decent defensive rebounder. He boxes out well. Not the best defender in the world, but he always tries hard (which is why he gets more fouls) and he is far from a traffic cone on defense like CWood. I really think the "bad defender" narrative is overblown.
But do you think he can be a plus? I think long term our best lineups will be jabari at center, but who knows at this point
I am looking forward to our young guys (KPJ, JG4, Tari, Bari, Alpi) complementing each other. Let's just wait and see and enjoy the ride, and watching them grow. Mistakes and growing pains are fine. I worry less about mistakes than about players ignoring an open man and freezing others' out, like Josh Christopher does too often.
ya i don't care about mistakes, our main goal is a top 3 pick again, but i do think looking at long term fit is important
Spoiler Bobby: 4 years, $72Mish, $10M in unlikely incentives It’s a specialty contract. Last pick in the draft in the first round Incident in Cleveland Traded to Houston for a Top 55 second Incident in Houston last year One or two incidents from being out of the NBA in general When you negotiate, you’re leverage is low. From a guarantee standpoint, he’s $16M richer today than yesterday Liked how his agent structured the contract, year 2 & 3 are tied together Incentives based on games played, Houston reaching the playoffs Year 1 has a rolling protection for that, how it impacts year 2 If he plays a certain amount of games & reach the playoffs, year 2 becomes $6M guaranteed If Porter made All-NBA this year, he wasn’t getting $80M guaranteed What happened in the past plays into the situation He wasn’t getting more money I saw someone tweet and I try to stay off twitter reading comments, “He could’ve got more.” No he couldn’t. The 11 teams with cap space weren’t giving an offer sheet. That was not going to happen. It’s a fair deal. One side always doesn’t have to win here. It’s a fair deal. Starter money, quality starter but we know about everything else that comes with it. He knows there’s not many more opportunities he’s going to have. I love the contract. Wish more were like that. They’re not going to be based on a specialty contract for Kevin Porter Jr.
I want Sengun to succeed but it takes more than one or two fancy passes out of the post up; which the best post up teams run that play type less than 9 times a game. I find a greater potential for Sengun success in that Olynyk role where he is above the break 3-point land and we get movement and screens freeing up players back cutting. Silas needs to see Sengun proficient at the 10 to 12 foot spot shooting and 3-pointer above the break. Facilitators use the low percentage step back 3 to suck up their defender.....Sengun needs to earn the respect of the league from that 10 to 12 foot range and 3-pointer. No 13 footers to the 3-point line. Reason being.....let's work on higher percentage shot. ------- *Rockets coaching/staff needs to continue working on his foot speed drills *Better shot blocker *Better rebounder (I saw Dedmon throwing him around). Threw him like a ragdoll and dunked it home. *I said on draft night that his pump fakes near the rim presenting a possible hook shot over one shoulder to then the other looks like he is sliding his pivot foot. Refs let it go last season, but coaches are going to push the call more this season and refs are going to call it travelling more. I'm seeing it more already in preseason. Counts as turnovers of course. Same crime KPj was blasted for last year. The dreaded TURNOVERS. One player can be a defensive liability.....like always playing drop defense and not popping out to defend the 3; but everyone else needs to pick up the slack. That means the weak defender better be a big plus on the offensive end to negate the defensive flaws. Me personally, I feel the Gobert, Embiid, Jokic, KAT lack of 3-point defense that cost their playoffs teams greater success.
Oh I know, that's why I'm saying get prepared for disappointment because that's the most likely scenario. Could be 35.
Good for Porter. Good for Rockets. This is good. Keep it together and get a bag. Do that and probably get a big bag. Go get it man! Porter, Green, Smith big 3. If all 3 hit their stride, together no less, you got something legit. Eason already looks like the 4th horseman too.
Totally agree. He’s not an elite defender for sure due to his physical limitations. But he’s not a bad defender either.
