Sure, and he'll make nearly twice what you'd have offered him unless there's a total collapse... so it's best of both worlds. There's no embarrassing cheapskate offer like you suggested AND absolutely no risk.
really you have nothing to gloat about ..... You guys were talking about $25m+ ... What he really got was a one year contract for $15,860,000 and a chance to earn the next two years. Hell, there's not a single year in the deal that the base salary is above $20m Kevin Porter Jr. Contract, Salary Cap Details & Breakdowns | Spotrac $15,860,000 $17,128,800 $18,397,600 $19,666,400 Doesn't appear to me that @DaDakota won that sig bet with @King1 ....
Silas is seriously under rated here. When you look at some of the offensive statistics this team put up last year and to do it with a roster full of 1st and 2nd year players is really impressive.
I like Jaylen Brown, Dejounte Murray and Pascal Siakam, though I recognize those guys are likely to get extensions before hitting free agency. But honestly, I'd be good with them utilizing the money to sign 2-3 or even 4 top tier role players to put around a more developed Jalen Green, Jabari, Alpi, Scoot, Tari and, of course, JOSH CHRISTOPHER!
Yes, I guess as fans we are fickle, but I would be happy to see the team grow with this coach. As long as there will be growth, and as long as he makes sure all our young talents get their chances and get involved, and doesn't just let one or two players play "Francis and Mobley" ball. I'm optimistic now. I am also encouraged by what KPJ says and how he seems to have changed his demeanor. I for one will support him and will cheer for him, even when he makes mistakes. I will not be hoping for him to fail, just so that my skepticism would be proven right. That kind of thinking is for others. Also, I am very impressed that the Rockets succeeded in structuring the deal this way. Well done. And I genuinely mean it, I hope he earns all four years of the contract. As a sidenote, the three posters who think KPJ is Lebron 2.0 were completely off. They thought he was going to get a Jordan Poole type deal. Clearly, that hasn't happened. @King1 was much closer to reality than these guys. I don't see their posts, so I don't know if they are gloating, but I assume they would - when they were totally off base.
It's funny that now the goalposts have shifted so far that KPJ getting almost exactly what we were suggesting he get in order to have to pay him more in RFA is now proving right the people who were saying he should get no more than 9 mil a year......funny how that happens.
Sure beats the 9M qualifier you pushed forward!! LOL and since you seem to have an issue with memory recall I had advocated a 15M baseline for him and warned you all that you are going to allow him to play himself into a much larger contract and then laid out all the reasons why. Use the search function. You were wrong as hell as well as a good portion of the other haters here and now you can eat crow or just hang onto "its a bad deal his agent is terrible" emotions to soothe your bruised ego. Im enjoying this even more watching you all squirm around.
This from the person who just last night was saying he deserved only a 13 mil a year average deal.....I have no clue what that moron you cited has said lately, but if I remember correctly, his schtick was that KPJ would never get a contract extension and didn't deserve one at all.....so how is that "much closer"? Look I get it, you're embarrassed and trying to save face, just stop now, it'll be for the best.
I honestly feel like the kpj fan club overvalued him with some folks 25-30+ mil and the anti kpj folks undervalued him @ 10 mil or none. 15-20 mil is fair. it aint our money and the potential of KPJ to improve this extension was a steal. props to stone and KPJ for doing whatever it takes to rehab his image. He wouldn't have to b signing this if he exploded this season like the kpj fan club envision.
ya but we get TWO full seasons to evaluate him before deciding if we're gonna pay him, that's fantastic. If it was 4/82 all gar. i'd be livid, for 1/16 i'm thrilled
Assuming maximum 8% raises on this deal, and a maximum of 15% unlikely incentives per year, KPJ's extension could look like the following: Base Salary Unlikely Incentives Total 2023 $ 15.68 $ 2.77 $ 18.45 2024 $ 16.93 $ 2.99 $ 19.92 2025 $ 18.19 $ 3.21 $ 21.40 2026 $ 19.44 $ 3.43 $ 22.87 Total $ 70.25 $ 12.40 $ 82.64 There's a unique opportunity here in that the Rockets could potentially include some pretty achievable bonuses that would nevertheless be counted as "unlikely" in the summer of 2023, simply because the team has been so bad. Crucially, "unlikely" incentives would not count against the Rockets available cap space. As an example, Jordan Poole has the following in his new deal annually: Poole will make an extra $250,000 if he plays at least 65 regular-season games and the Warriors reach the first round of the playoffs. Poole will make an extra $250,000 if he plays at least 65 regular-season games and the Warriors reach the second round of the playoffs. Poole will make an extra $250,000 if he plays at least 65 regular-season games and the Warriors reach the conference finals. Poole will make an extra $250,000 if he plays at least 65 regular-season games and the Warriors reach the NBA Finals. Poole will make an extra $250,000 if he plays at least 65 regular-season games and the Warriors win at least 52 regular-season games. You could drop the 52 regular season wins down to something as low as 35 wins, and I would imagine that it would still be considered unlikely for KPJ on this Rockets team, which has won a total of 37 games in the past two years. He's also never played more than 61 games in a season, so a 65 GP would be considered unlikely for him as well. The contract structure seems amazing for the Rockets, and something I thought that no agent would ever allow their player to accept; this is a version of the "4-year Hinkie Special", except now applied to a contract that is 65% above the Midlevel. Many people will ask why KPJ didn't just turn this down, bet on himself, and pursue FA. To me, this IS KPJ betting on himself; betting that Houston is a comfortable situation that will allow for him to make all of the guarantee dates formalities. I'm thrilled that they got this deal done, and that I can cheer for KPJ's development both without worrying if he doesn't keep it together, or if his play is pricing him out of the Rockets' budget.
That's a misrepresentation, the talk was to sign him now for a discount rate of 15-20 mil to avoid paying him 25-30 next season, that's exactly what happened. I'm not sure of anyone who suggested paying him that much now.
Sure, you can hold on to hope that the Rockets won't exercise his option, but it's all but a given save for a complete meltdown. You keep your best two players together when you can. I certainly like the way it's structured more than if it was totally guarantied, but neither would be bad deals, they are below average for a starting guard. It's amazingly team friendly.
I just briefly took this idiot off ignore, just to spend 10 seconds on a quick search. KPJ got 1 year at about 15 million guaranteed. So I was a hell of a lot closer with 13 million per year (in fact, extremely close) than you were with your multi-year 30 million per year deal. Matter of fact, that is less guaranteed than what I would have thought. Take the L, bobbythesmall. Back to ignore you go. And again - I am happy for KPJ, I think his is a good deal, and I am going to root for him. Who am I not going to root for? The three morons who think this gives them a reason to gloat.
He'll make nearly twice that deal with likely incentives alone....sorry kiddo, you were wrong. Hilariously wrong.
Interesting point on the incentives. you’re saying it’s a "reverse Nene" deal. With Nene Rox signed a bloated $10M deal mostly made of "likely incentives", since they were in the GSW/Poole sitch above. The idea was to use the money as a salary match in a deal, where the receiving team would not have to pay them.
I remember when you called out that capologist wannabe for originally stating signing KPj to the cap hold amount around $9.7M to seeing him change it to around $11M or $12M Noted how he conveniently changed his stance after reviewing TV/streaming projections and how that will effect extensions of current players. He didn't want to go $15M with the smart ones here. So he T-Rex'd (short armed) his guess.
