Just when I think this place can't get any more preposterous, you got people on gloating over the fact he only got 16 million guaranteed instead of 20 like they won something.
Especially funny when it's the same people that were saying absolutely nothing over his cap hold or a few who said absolutely nothing over 12 mil.....and one idiot that was absolutely certain no contract extension was coming commenting numerous times claiming that the lack of an extension meant the Rockets didn't want him. I kind of knew this is what would happen, it's not the first time, won't be the last time.
The bolded part is a big risk with not much evidence to support it. You may be right but it's pretty much a wild guess at this point.
This is a good deal. If KPJ sucks this year year then the Rockets are out 16 million next year. If they don't win the VW sweepstakes then hopefully they can get Scoot Henderson. KPJ plays 6th man in 23 and gets released. If he is great then it is a win for the team. I don't think he will suck. I don't know if he will be a star, but he won't suck.
Dude, you literally just follow me around saying FAT THIS, or DRUNK THAT - what could you possibly say that is of value to anyone when you do that? If you want to talk ball, I am always down, if you want to personally attack, you aren't worth the time. You are now on probation. DD
Folks are wrong all the time. i was quite surprised that there are a lot of folks who really didn't like KPJ like at all, to the point they thought he wasn't worth any extension, but hey opinions change. I recall there was a certain idiot that thought green would take years to developed into a NBA player, but im sure his opinions changed also. Like u said it's not the first time folks said something wrong, won't b the last time either.
So what evidence do you need to support it? Why does the year and a half without incident and him knowing he ****ed upped immediately not do anything for you? Why is this such a big risk as opposed to any other young NBA player?
Here is the difference with me, while others will run around saying.....oh DD is always wrong yadda yadda yadda.......and here that is clearly not the case - I won't be running around saying...."See, told ya so".....just happy that the team is developing a core with some chemistry. GO ROCKETS ! DD
Since we got KPJ the Rockets have taken a very heavy nurturing role in his development. I've always been skeptical of it, but it is interesting.
Very true, it happens to literally all of us. That's why when it happens, it's best not to just double down if you're actually wrong. When it comes to Green, my concerns were that he might NEVER develop, or that it would take a long time. Those concerns went away at the end of last year when it was clear he was already showing signs of development and I'm REALLY happy to have been wrong. He still has a long way to go overall, his defense is still fairly poor and he still needs work when it comes to his decision making and passing, but none of that matters. Now that I've seen the improvement, I have no doubt it will continue.
The Rockets did just play hardball, and next year’s free agent crop is crap. this is settling, not betting on yourself…and the post I was replying to said he thinks KPJr could have received a near max offer if he balled out…there are multiple KPJ superfans on here making claims he could have been worth upwards of 25 mil/yr next offseason, and I doubt they were including the majority of it being non-guaranteed if balling out can get u a near max next offseason according to that post, it makes all the sense in the world to bet on yourself unless u have a “just take whatever u can get” mentality
I’d be interested to hear what are the viable options if KPJ turns into a real star. Do we have the option of terminating the contract and signing him to a different fully guaranteed deal after year 1 or 3(since 2&3 trigger simultaneously) of the extension? In that scenario I would guess it’s probably more likely we rework a new deal that would kick in after year 3 of this extension.
He's a knucklehead. Year and a half??? He left a game at half time last January! So much for your timeline..... Stone recognized the risk, that's why the contract isn't fully guaranteed. Not saying this was a bad deal just that KPJ is not stable. The risk is him acting stable for the length of the contract.
Like we did with Harden, I think we can always re-configure his contract with cap space if he's willing. He would have to make a mindblowng leap to all NBA level for us to want to do that I imagine.
Hard not to like the deal. KPJ's talent is greater than that contract and the non-guaranteed part just allows freedom to us - especially from a trade perspective. I hope he continues to grow and reaches his full potential here. He really showed progress last year especially after we traded Wood
