Exactly right Big Dog.....Big Dog in the House!! You don't know how many times I got blasted for saying $15M to $18M Blasters: "So you want to pay KPj Max Money!?! " $15M to $18M is not max Money....waiting until the summer when we have to pay $20 to $30 mil is max Money. Now $15M is just right......? Psycho hypocrites Bi-polar much fellas?
LOL now "they" want to try and hang on for dear life with the "well its just a one year 16M deal - he wont ever get that 80"
I spelled it out already. He could get more in RFA, but where would he be playing? What kind of situation would be be going into? Staying here taking a slightly smaller deal he gets to look good running the point for Jalen Green and Jabari Smith surrounded by players he already has chemistry with, in an organization he's comfortable with. If he goes elsewhere....who knows? KPJ is a player who has already experienced being in a bad situation before and saw how it set back his career. He's now looking to continue growing in a good situation while setting himself up for his next contract potentially being a max or near max in 2027 when he's at or near the peak of his prime. That deal would more than make up for sacrificing a few million a year now. The alternative could be taking the larger payday now in a bad situation that tanks his value for that next contract. Your contract at 23 doesn't matter as much as your contract at 27. The Rockets knew all of this, so they structured the deal to be highly favorable to the team where there is basically no risk and infinite upside. It works for both player and team....the sign of a good deal.
I havent even pulled out the quote receipts yet!! The puppies keep barking and its going to really get uncomfortable in here! -- but this is what they wanted right? Didnt want to do this like adults in good faith so now its like colors are brighter, my coffee tasted better this morning. Life is good!!
What purpose are you serving by spinning this convoluted fairy tale? Not once, in the entire history of the NBA, has a 22 year old player on a rookie contract ever taken a discounted, non-guaranteed 4 year contract, so he can maximize his payout when he turns 27 years old. That's completely absurd. The reality is KPJ either likes this team so much that he decided to agree to this contract, or the market is not there for him. Signing a 4 year deal, with 3 years non-guaranteed, so he can maximize his payout at 27 is completely ludicrous. Some players bet on themselves, but that is at most for 1 season. Betting on yourself for 4 seasons so you can get a max contract after 4 years is nonsense.
Well it’s not my opinion that his contract isn’t 4/82 guaranteed. It will be years before anyone knows how much he actually makes from it. And thats a far cry from guaranteeing 15-20 million for multiple years and even further from an expectation that he would be worth 25-30 after this season. If anyone on KPJs side thought that was an actual possibility the deal he agreed to would have never happened. He would have played the season out and hit RFA.
How many 22 year old players on rookie contracts have had the path KPJ has? He's experienced first hand what ending up on the wrong team can do to your career. If you are confident in yourself and young enough, you sign that deal knowing that at the end of that deal is potentially a max contract. In his mind, I'm sure he knows he's not in any real danger of not having those seasons picked up, he knows how good he looks in this current situation. The gamble would be to roll the dice and end up on a random team elsewhere for a few million dollars extra that could tank his career.
Great deal and KPJs issues are known league wide. It’s not like some other team was dropping a bag of cash on him considering up and down play and up and down attitude. He has an established relationship with the Rockets as well. I think it’s a good and fair deal for both sides.
This is a good deal, he gets about 16m+ more guaranteed, and if it is a good year, he gets 63m more for the next 3, it is a win win deal....he took 16m more this year and the org gets flexibility in case he has some issues, they both did a great deal. This is so much better PEOPLE management skills than Morey - Stone is on fire, IMHO......he didn't cost any flexibility and he made a potential star player on our team happy to still be here. DD
He gets 16 mil next year, this year doesn’t change. Rockets have 2 years now to decide if they want him long term at very low cost, so big win imo.
Agreed on the big win, but he got another 15m guaranteed - which wasn't before - so even if he craps the bed he wins.....but he really wins if he stays the course. AND it shows the Rockets believe in him as part of their core. DD
You don't give 15m to him guaranteed if you don't believe in him at all........it may be cautious, but remember the Rox didn't have to give him anything. Yet, they did......that shows faith......and it is great people managment. DD
Not really. It shows they think he could be, if he sufficiently matures and develops. If they believed in him, those years would be guaranteed.
Very happy for the Rox and KPJ. Seems like they are betting on each other and both sides are happy to work together. That's a very good sign of a strong relationship of trust going forward.
Come on dude be genuine. People were talking about poole and herro who got over 100 gar, KPJ got like 1/7th of what those guys got. It's a pure prove it contract, giving Houston 2 years at very little money to see if he's a long term fit.
Dude, it is ONE year. Very different from the long term ("or you'll regret it") deal you guy were advocating.
Of course it is - i am real, the Rocket just gave him 15m dollars that they didn't HAVE to give him.....and yes, if he proves that his maturity is good, it is a great deal for us. DD
Of course it's a great deal for us, it's one of the most ridiculous team friendly contracts ever signed in the nba, if not the most ridiculous
As more details come out all this early bravado and grasping for your own egos seems even more foolish instead of admitting you were wrong, you guys decide to hang on with yet more subjective conjecture about "well its not even a very good contract - his agent should be fired". Its really lame.
