I’m ready for a 4 team play-in toury similar to the nba

I find it appalling, but that's the direction sports are headed.

 

I reminds me of participation trophies. It is the antithesis of competition.

 

The wild card round basically is a play in tournament. They need to remove the off day between the end of the season and the start of the wild card round. All game 162's are afternoon games. Start the wild card games the next day in the evening. That's enough time for teams to travel and not have an early game the next day. This way they are back to the DS round starting the same number of days after the regular season as we had before.

 

The playin stuff in the nba is complete trash, so no thanks

The 162 game season is already a playoff.

 

Unfortunately the MLB is pushing for 2 more teams making the playoffs.

It's about money of course.

It's too much for me. Dilutes the importance of the regular season.

Maybe the Braves and Dodgers, ( and dare we hope - Yankees) not making it to the LCS will also motivate MLB to want more changes.

If the playoffs go to 14 what I would like to see:

Regular season cut down by 8-20 games.

No off days before start of wild card round.

Eliminate divisions.

 

The more teams make it, the less often the big money teams will be in the World Series, so i’m not sure if it’s actually good financially. This isn’t basketball where putting a few garbage teams in the playoffs does anything, in baseball those teams can win.

 

Why? They have 162 games to prove their mettle.

 

This season is already showing why more playoff teams may not work in baseball. When's the last time you saw 3 of the four top teams in the NBA eliminated in the early rounds? Having a bye week is ridiculous as it gives the advantage to the team who is on a roll from the first round over a team that may be rusty. Some may say a team with barely a .500 record making it to the later rounds is good tv but it takes away from the entire 162 game season. Might as well cut the regular season in half at that point. I'm happy the Astros advanced and now have home-field advantage throughout but not happy with how the Wild Card messed up this season as we may be the only 100 win team to survive.

 

Sucks when half the league is in the playoffs.

 

I hope more teams aren't added to the playoffs. The long season is losing all meaning. The long season is to sort out the randomness and luck that's part of the game. Inferior teams always have a great shot to knock off the best teams in a short series. It's going to turn into (if it already hasn't) just a tournament championship and not a baseball season champion.

But MLB has been pushing for 14 teams and will get them eventually.

It's simply too much money for them to resist.

 

I don’t think they expand it. Baseball postseason is so good bc the quality of teams are actually elite. More teams doesn’t mean good teams. More teams means the lesser teams being destroyed

and ftr the playin scenario for nba is a joke. Just a plain stupid idea. It worked for the Covid season but makes 0 sense now.
