^^This^^ Most of the Bromley contingent (the Sex Pistols entourage) were Bowie fans and hugely influenced by Bowies look. Siouxsie Sioux and Steve Severin were both in this group and when Robert Smith briefly joined Siouxsie and The Banshees, he was enamored by her look and sound. It was a multi year transformation. The Cure...pre Robert Smiths Siouxsie years..1979 The Cure..after Robert Smiths first tour with Siouxsie (as a substitute guitarists, and after the Cure was their opener) While his look isn't changed a whole lot, the sound is quite a bit different. 1980 The Cure..next album. Makeup is beginning to be applied, the hair is starting to get teased. The sound is definitely set. 1981
IIRC, Bob Smith has always remained close to Steve Severin even to this day but Siouxsie was pretty upset when he left the Banshees to concentrate solely on The Cure (you know, his own band). Pulling double duty was a big reason for him getting into drugs (at the time) and also why “The Top” is such a messy album. He has mentioned many times over the years the debt that he owes to Siouxsie and the Banshees - probably the same number of times he has also expressed his dislike towards Morrissey.
if youre going to troll this thread with a country song could you at least troll with one that doesnt suck. next time try to post some real, authentic country like this...
the albums of theirs i listen to the most these days are kiss me, head on the door, the top and the glove album. disintegration might be my most listened to album of all time so i dont really put it on too much anymore. im blown away when i do though. still holds up epicly. i agree on p*rnography being overrated. its good, but i wouldnt rank it amongst the best cure records. robert smith said wild mood swings is his favorite cure album and he was really disappointed by the lack of attention it got. theres some good songs on there (gone is one of my favorite cure songs) but i think the album is way too long. cut some of those songs and it would be much stronger. i love the top. its basically a robert smith solo album as he played everything except drums. its weird and psychedelic. caterpillar was the only "hit" on that one, but shake dog shake is a great song too. i see it as a transition record from the p*rnography era into "arena rock" era (head on the door and beyond). its both the end of an era and the beginning of a new one. you can hear NIN and 90's industrial in here...
the cure didn't make it big until their compilation album standing on a beach where they made all those big budget videos with tim pope and changed their image.
Bruce Willis dismissed them in Live Free Die Hard. They can't be very good. Then he killed a helicopter with a car.
