Achane yes Depending what positions we draft first but center or guard maybe even tackle would be my next positions to draft.
Carter is a really good prospect and if you think he is the BPA, then it's hard to argue against the pick. But even then you are saying we still need to sign the best defensive FA to fix one aspect of the defense. The ROI on DL taken high is typically not great, Texans fans should know this more than anyone. That being said, I do think Will Anderson is the best player in this class You seem enamored with the 2024 QBs which I understand, the only problem is that you are betting on us still being one of the worst teams next season. To me this is like passing on Burrow and Herbert in 2020 in hopes of getting Trevor Lawrence the next draft. It’s a big time gamble.
Jalen I love Carter he's better than Davis and Wyatt. Have you seen how bad the run defense is? If you add Carter and say fa Smith at LB the defense will be a top 10 defense. Particularly if Harris is what I think he is. I think the Texans go 6-11 next yr and if they need to trade up in the 2024 draft they certainly have the ammo to do so. What do you think their record will be? I loved Burrow more than Tua and loved Her ert too. Although I was worried about injuries when it came to Herbert, same as with Tua. As far as talent goes Herbert won me over at the Sr. Bowl. Maybe this happens again this yr. Who knows.
I like Carter alot and believe he has huge potential. If we're in the Top 5, I would like one of Will Anderson, Carter or Will Levis. With CLE pick, I'd love to add a weapon like Michael Mayer (TE) to the offense. I like your Drew Sanders pick in the 2nd. Would be good with Zac and Ricky in the third, or guys like Jarrett Patterson or Cooper Beebe for IOL.
If there isn't that surefire guy at QB then you build from the trenches on both sides, and since they may have a decent to pro bowl caliber corner/safety tandem in the works it would also make it easier to build that defense up more and take best player on their board and with Browns pick take best skill player and wait to get your QB in next draft Texans are so bad they have no choice but to go up from here
Trevor Lawrence was a sure fire guy. All the best qbs in the league right now weren’t sure fire guys. The draft is a risk, but a necessary one. The qbs coming out this year have just as much a chance of being stars as the ones coming in 2024, and none of us can be sure about any of them. What we can reasonably guess, however, is that our draft capital this year will be much better than next year. If Deshaun plays the whole year Cleveland’s pick could be in the 20s. If we have another good draft and spend in free agency, even with Mills we’d probably be somewhere around picks 8-15. Both of those picks together doesn’t get you high enough to get a top 3 pick, and if you’re giving up more than that it’s honestly not worth it for just a chance at getting a qb when the team has so many other needs.
It’ll be interesting to see when Caserio decides to go big game hunting. Hard to see it being this upcoming off-season if we go the stop gap QB route. The cap opens up exponentially in 2024 as well. In any case, I’m not sure how much of a viable option Smith will be. Dude is looking to be PAID. 6-11 sounds about right. Honestly with somewhat competent QB play, we could easily have 4 wins this season already. But this kinda highlights my point, if we are even slightly improved next year, we will likely be out of the Williams/Ewers sweepstakes unless we mortgage a lot of our future picks. Ultimately I’m good with the BPA. Personally I think that could very well be Stroud or Young.
If we have the choice of Anderson and Bryce Caserio will pick Anderson and add him to this defense with sting and pitre…hoping Harris show some real potential in his return. If Anderson is gone I can see Bryce falling right into our hands and Caserio will make him the selection.
https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft...-chapter-with-bryce-young-at-quarterback/amp/ Some players drafted really high in this one
Agreed. I’ll be happy with any one of Anderson/Stroud/Young but it’ll be hard to pass on Anderson if all 3 are available.
Yeah the potential of adding Anderson to this defense is just too good to pass up if given the opportunity. This team and offense is more then just a QB away from being really good. We are not in a situation where with even the most elite QB that this team could really compete.
From my angle, Lawrence was more of a media hyped created guy, he had a few flash / big time moments at Clemson but he didn't give me the same vibe of that sure fire guy that Watson did at Clemson or like Newton or P Manning / Vick etc, but he could still end up fulfilling the media hyped up potential It's why i said if there isn't (according to Texans scout/board) then you go the build from the trenches route, but the Texans could possibly take a qb based on their reviews / big board and barring any major injury to Watson those upcoming picks will be in the 20's because Watson is too good to not have Cleveland in the playoff picture when you are as bad as the Texans are, options are a beautiful (and only) thing, many other needs is an understatement
This is revisionist history. If Deshaun Watson was seen as a surefire guy he wouldn't have went 12th. It's easy for people to say now that they thought certain qbs were surefire guys, but every year people pick the qbs apart and find what they deem to be serious flaws. The reality is, no one can predict how a qb will turn out in the nfl, especially because college football is so different. I'm not opposed to building in the trenches, just realize that passing on a qb this year likely means you will be unable to get Ewers or Williams next year, because our picks will be worse so it would take too much draft capital to move up, and if those qbs are seen as "sure fire" guys, the teams at the top probably wouldn't trade down anyway.
Both of those picks will get you into the top 5, which would allow you to pick one of the top 3 QB's in the 2024 draft. Speaking of this, if you really wanted to, you could trade down from the Browns pick this yr and get another 1st in 2024. you probably could get an early 2nd/4th this draft and a 2024 1st. Gotta think long term. Would you rather have say, Carter/Washington and a 4th, plus a 2024 1st, or Stroud and Mayer? I know which way I would go.
This is another weird mock for me. They have the 21st ranked prospect going 4th overall? I'd take Myles Murphy over Uzomah easily. Then the 37th ranked guy going 7th overall? I dunno about all that.
