Her first scene in a film, at age 18, in Gaslight (1944), which earned her an Best Supporting Actress nomination by the Academy. The following year, she received another nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in The Picture of Dorian Gray. Both nominations by age 20, a remarkable achievement. The clip from Gaslight is followed by a series of scenes from other early films.

Somehow or other, I ended up watching a part of her murder mystery TV series ("Murder She Wrote") season one episode one earlier today by accident. On the episode, it started with her watching a murder mystery play first act and she was exiting the show with her two friends accompanying her. The writer of the play overheard her talking to her friends about how she already knows who the murderer is. The writer then queries her about who and she tells him giving him the evidence. The writer is clearly bothered by it. Then, she comments about how they will be back tomorrow for the second act anyway (and even though she already has it figured it out). Meanwhile, the writer is flustered and immediately starts yelling to his co-worker about making changes to the script because this lady already figured it out as there were too many clues giving it away and he's obviously not as great a writer in this genre as he had hoped. LOL

That's as far as I got. I think back in the day I was more of a "Matlock" and "Quincy, M.E." watcher. I may have watched a few of her shows back in the day. There weren't too many viewing options for these types of shows way back when...unlike today.

    Rest in peace, Angela

How did I not realize she voiced Mrs Potts?!?
Man, my mom used to love Murder she Wrote. Watched so many episodes as a child with her. Or rather my mom watched and I begged her to change the channel.

Have you ever seen Gaslight? It's a "Edwardian" period noir film directed by George Cukor that's very much in the vein of Hitchcock. Ingrid Bergman won a Best Actress Oscar for her superb performance and it was nominated for several others besides Lansbury's, winning for best art direction. The term "gaslighting" that's so popular these days comes directly from both the title of the film and one of the methods used by Bergman's conniving husband in his attempt to drive her mad.

No. I tend to find film from that era terribly tedious. I'm a product of my era, I like either high tension or lots of action in my films.

However, I will check it out since you recommend it. :)

If you like "high tension," it has it in spades. Try to watch it without commercials, which would ruin the flow.
I like good films from all eras. ;-)

    Menois a trois.

Andy Griffith said she was a very open and giving lover.
