Look at there stats. Embid has two seasons at 30% his first year he barely played any games Probsbly skewed his numbers. Jokic also shot 30% before his mvp years. Not like those numbers were outstanding. They are not the shooters they are today and they were both much older than Sengun.

Embid didn't play his first game until he was 22. If Sengun isn't shooting over 30% in next 3 years he will probably never be great.

I think we just have to accept that there is going to be matchups that will make Sengun kind of unplayable....but that's why we have Jabari Smith.

I think Sengun still has a lot of upside, and I don't think he is god awful at anything except for reaching on defense.

I think KPJ most definitely has the higher upside.

That’s what I’m saying, but guys on here are telling me Sengun can’t get played off the court. Like what am I missing? How is this dude gonna play against certain teams and close games?

Maybe not god awful, but not good. Sengun brings no versatility to the game. With his archetype, he better be a superstar 10 player in the league. Bc you have to build your entire team around him and run everything through him

KPJ upside is a 6th man of the year type and bench playmaker. Sengun upside is somewhere between Jokic and Sabonis. I’ll take the latter.
Some of you sure like to think you can see the future. But the numbers from last year don’t agree with you, the MVP at 18 doesn’t agree with you, 360 dunks in game don’t agree with you.
He isn’t some below average, unathletic oaf that has no ability to score. Yes, he has to develop some range, yes he has to finish filling out and growing strength and explosion and has to be smarter on defense.
    That will come

No versatility? What are you talking about? Who else on the team can do what he does? That’s the definition of versatile.
And what is he “god awful” at besides 3 pt shooting right now?

I see this week, Alperen not only is not our best player, but perhaps, not even a starter.

Can’t shoot, can’t switch, can’t protect the rim, not a lob threat, average rebounder, foul prone, poor p&r finisher, turnover machine. Good screener, can post up certain players, and makes cute passes. That’s it!!!

Developing shot, was a good switch defender last year, averaged a block a game in limited minutes plus numerous deflections, rebounding is solid specially when he’s the only player that boxes out, foul prone for sure, they don’t pass ever out of pick and roll so we don’t actually know if he’s a lob threat or good finisher (his game says he should be), turnovers aren’t much different than our guards (KPJ averages more per 36) but needs to tighten up.
You honestly just are a hater, the dudes numbers were compared to some of the best players in history last year. You should be happy that there’s another player like that on the rockets.
It’s real fishy why people don’t like him

He is an undersized low post offensive player, who has a ton of holes in his game to become a GOOD NBA player.

Nice guy (reassuring) Steve to John Lucas’ a``hole.

    https://www.houstonchronicle.com/te...s-Alperen-Sengun-Rockets-offense-17504769.php

“For Al-P, it’s been hard,” Silas said. “Al-P’s strength is having the basketball and he hasn’t had the ball much,” Silas said. “He’s been a pick-and-roll player. As we go through training camp, which is still going on, he’ll get his post-ups and he’ll get his elbow catches and it’ll be more comfortable for him.

“He’s going to have to do both. He’s going to have to be able to be a guy we can go to, and he can make plays for himself or his teammates, but also pick, roll, take the dunker (spot), space and have guys play off him. That adjustment has been a little bit tough for him, but we’ll definitely get there.”

“Part of it is playing as a starter and getting comfortable with the group he is playing with,” Silas said. “Also, being able to play to his strengths, which is post-ups and elbow touches. The defensive end is huge, being able to be on the floor and not getting into foul trouble and being good in pick-and-roll coverages is really big.”

    “He’s a second-year player. It’s a huge jump. Just developing.”

Thank you. This is exactly what I wanted to hear. No one is asking him to exclusively post up, not the first or even second option, just get him some touches in the elbow and high post, dho, let him make plays. And yes he will have to learn to be a better pnr player, just not exclusively so(like how Lucas made it sound).

im not a hater, you’re just a Sengun fanatic man. You only talk about him, only like things about him. Like come on, you gotta be honest about these things. You say he’s things that he’s not. I do like him, but not as our starting 5. You’re wrong on this one and you’ll see eventually. We’ll always disagree on this, but I still respect you and your basketball knowledge

You're making the same mistake you made with Green in the first portion of last season. Yes he needs to sharpen his 3pt shot, but don't judge a player who is intentionally being made to do the things they suck at. They are putting him in that uncomfortable position in order to get better at them. It's logical that he would look his absolute worst. If your only intention was to make him look bad, that's what you would do - but you have to look at the bigger picture to understand the intention. It was a very intelligent approach by Silas for developing Green, making a clear point to him that the team will not always play to his strengths and he has to get better at being off ball.

Alpi will benefit from it too. Let him get humbled playing perimeter defense. Let him turn it over on the PnR. The other day he said he can play with anyone at the 4/5 and that was a dumb thing to say - no you can't Alpi. Not yet. You will be able to, I know. Just give the guy a chance to go from bad to average at these things, and his whole game will take off much like Jalen.

Rockets fans constantly ******** on their own international prospects is so "strange". I learned from the Yao days to just ignore them till they act like they were on the bandwagon all along.

his defensive potential worries me a lot more than his offense tbh

he has some post moves, is smart, and is a nice passer…he can improve his jump shot

on defense, there are things that just are what they are
