In the prior two batters before being pulled Grienke gave up a Crawford Box HR and a walk to Soto. In that walk, the ump screwed us on a ball in the zone on a 2-1 count that made it 3-1.
So once again so we can put a halt to any defending of this move by Scott DisServais. Robby Ray 65 home runs given up in just the last 2 seasons alone. Robby Ray 10 2/3 IP, 23 H, 6 HRs allowed vs the Astros this season. Robby Ray destroyed by the Blue Jays in his only appearance thus far in the postseason. Robbie Ray was literally the last pitcher you could bring on in that situation. As in if you looked up the analytics on Ray versus the Astros on the iPad it would have caught fire right in front of you. Analytics 1 Gut instincts 0
Anybody talking about Gurriel's THREE hits last night. It usually takes him a couple of series to get that many. And Mancini still looks like a deer in the headlights. I can't see how they resign him.
I think the guy is an asshat. But nothing about that tweet is worthy of an apology. Just two guys giving each other the business.
Other than Will Harris was suffering from overuse, I won't knock the move. Protecting a 1 run lead, starter going through a lineup for the 3rd time, bullpen can make a lot sense. Greinke did have great numbers his 3rd time through the lineup that year, so maybe you do leave him in. If I could go back, I'd probably have started the inning with Pressley, but nothing was going to be ideal because Pressley and Harris had both been used in game 6, when you clearly would have wanted them and Osuna pitching 7-8-9 without factoring in fatigue.
Love we got to Munoz. 3 hits, 2 runs. Mariners bullpen looks shaky. Framber matches Castillo and I love our chances tomorrow.
I just heard an interview w/ Dusty. Apparently the decision about games 2 and 3 starters came down to the schedule. Normally the game 2 starter would be on 4 days rest ( off day, games 3-4, off day) for game 5. Since there is no off day between games 4 and 5, there is only 3 days between games 2 and 5. Dusty said they can not pitch Lance on 3 days rest for health risk issues but they can pitch Framber on 3 days if needed. Options. I was originally hoping Lance pitched game 2 and Framber game 3. But this is very solid reasoning and smart.
Crawford Box was the weak contact, and the walk was unfair: Grienke was doing fine, and I wanted him to stay on at the time - my family can attest I was screaming this at the TV at the time, and I stand by it now. All of that said, I was only responding tongue in cheek to a question about the worst bullpen moves in playoff history. Today is a great day, even if I had to describe it to my kids after the fact (I live in Europe - worst place to watch American sports ... I have lived in the Middle East and China, and both were far better time zones. I happened to wake up early and see the 8th/9th, but they didn't). Nothing will blunt my happiness today, not even poor decisions that cost us a "scandal free" World Series. Sorry I brought it up!
