Valdez gave up the least number of home runs per inning that any starter in the major leagues this season. Ray has given up 1 per game over the majority of his career. 1 per game!!! Two totally different situations.
I guess you can’t expect Ray to pump 2 fastballs down the plate like that, and 99% of the credit goes to Yordan, but idk wtf Ray was thinking. Even if he got him out it was a poor decision to pump him fastballs in that location.
Statistically you are right there probably isn’t a big difference, but let’s not pretend like it’s purely numbers on a spreadsheet and there aren’t other factors at play.
Correa will not swallow his pride enough to make a return to the Astros. He won't return without the HUGE contract and the Astros won't give him that. Six years, which includes Arbitration years has been their limit. The 6 year $180M is the best they will do and that wasn't enough. It ain't gettin' higher.
And Two totally different pitchers. elite pitchers can give up HR's but still be elite to win the cy young
My guess is we'll see Meyers in CF and A Diaz at DH. While there is some though to DHing with Yordan, I think they wait for the trip to Seattle. When that happens, we may see McCormick in LF and Meyers in CF. I'd be surprised to see Mancini Starting Thursday barring some injury to the roster.
Well that’s the thing, it stayed a strike. Where Peña struggles is the slider that starts bottom corner and falls off to the dirt. I hope he can start looking for that and lay off because if they have to pitch to him over the plate then yes they are in a lot of trouble.
Ray is primarily a fastball (2 seamer and 4 seamer) and slider pitcher. His curve and changeup he rarely throws (less than 3% of the time combined) and they aren't great pitches. His fastball is his bread and butter. He would rather lose on that than hanging a slider.
Trying to figure out if this is the worst bullpen move in postseason history. It's either this or the Blake Snell removal from the Dodgers game after pitching the game of his life and fewer than 75 pitches thrown. You tell me.
Yeah, it's pretty amazing how even though the Stros ended up winning that series that night will always be what sticks in our minds. I imagine it will be that way for Mariners fans too, regardless of who wins the series. Lidge had some serious PTSD after that, was never the same in an Astros uniform.
And that right there is the stupidest thing Scott DisServais could have done if that indeed happened.
Serious question...why is everyone in the national/mariners media talking about how Mariners have will have their ace, Castillo going, so there's chance they'll win. Did they forget that Framber has been just as good or better than Castillo this year? A guy, who can be consider an ace in any team? Are the Astros throwing bullpen tomorrow or something? LOL
He did not put Alvarez on because it would put two men in scoring position and then you have to somehow not allow Bergman to get a base hit to tie the game. I think Scott Servais played it right. Alvarez just launched one. It was a bad situation was the M’s all around.
For everyone saying you should have had the closer in the game, I assume you also agreed with Will Harris over Gerrit Cole? I’m not saying with is right or wrong, just that the outcome dictates what people think of the decision. yes, I know ray’s numbers were worse than cole’s just sayin..
When you flip a coin, you never expect it to land on it's edge. This was a NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE moment.
