I’ve been telling y’all Tate can be a PG for a long time . granted . I like him starting . But maybe EG is there right now ?
If nix is bad, which he is, he should be replaced with another pg, Ty Ty. Tate is a bad version of kpj at the pg, who is already less than ideal to say the least. If we were competing for something and we needed an immediate solution, I would maybe say maybe. On a rebuilding team it is a definite no.
Can Tate cover small guards defensively? I don't see an issue with him running point. Seems like he can handle it at least as well as our other guards.
The hate that Tate gets is so weird. One of the only players on the team that plays the right way on both ends, all the time.
That man last year thought he was kiwi Jordan going 1 on 17. This year, in the one game in preseason, he seems to know the hierarchy. Tate's activity level is amazing when not paired with wood. Tate also cant throw lobs.
For what it is worth In his rookie season, Tate played as the PG on quite a few occasions. It during the period where a bunch of guys were out injured. Defensively he is fine against the smaller guards (go back and watch him defend Lillard in his rookie season). He wouldn't necessarily have to defend the opposing point though - that could fall to Christopher (or whomever), with Tate being the "point forward" Not sure I love the idea of him being backup point, but if it means more Jaygup and KJMjr and less Nix, then why not??
have you seen more of Nix to have a level of belief in him? If so, great. I haven’t but would love to be shamefully wrong.
If the Rockets were trying to win, I'd hate this. Odds are, they will use minutes with Green on the bench as a way to let other teams increase lead/comeback and play Nix with Christopher, Garuba, Kj again. Nix-lead lineups are doomed to fail.
I mentioned something similar back at the tail end of Tate's rookie season. The numbers were pretty significant with the team converting on just over 72% of the possessions he initiated the offense and it was no small sample size. The numbers were similar again last season just less frequent. Those efficiency numbers are in the realm of Harden .... Not as an individual but as a team.
Tate isn't a starter quality player and the Rockets have no quality backup PG's and Tate is the size of a PG so why not?
