This may come as a surprise to some but you can race/gender/whatever swap characters in popular/classic fiction and still produce compelling stories and quality media.

The reason things fail isn't because of representation or lack of it, it's because the product happens to be ****.

See Ghostbusters reboot. The writing was terrible, the acting was terrible, and so was the directing. It was a mess regardless of whether there were peepees or hoohaas shooting proton packs.

 

If they had the talent and brains to write a good well thought diverse character with a compelling story they wouldn't be race swapping original well written popular characters in the first place.

Sadly all they think about is the woke movement and politics, this comes first and then the character and story.

Tinman doesn’t like the “woke” scooby doo, and I’m not calling him an idiot. Likewise, I don’t agree with Around the World on a lot of stuff, and I don’t call him an idiot. Both appear to be more Republican/conservative than I am. Hell, Trader George posts conservative stuff daily, yet he isn’t an idiot either. They don’t regularly post stupid things.

Further to the point, you don’t appear to read well. You don’t seem to have any idea of what my “politics and movement” are. Not that you’d do the work, but pay attention or ask around. Someone around here will explain.

Serious answer. Nope. The show is barely political...but some people do think having a black elf makes it political for some reason I guess.

In fact, House of the Dragon is at least 10x more woke than Rings of Power, easy. RoP problem is it is a very slow paced show that doesn't have much of a hook.

Yeah, the first 4 more sleepy than woke. There are some unnecessary Zack Snyder shots and I never really liked Hobbits (or their kin) as a focus

Folks also complain about the female main character, but the context kinda justifies the way she acts even if she's too cold to be generally likeable.

If you compare this series with wheel of time, both have similarities in not being able to explain things or world build without dragging the pacing down. Both also have unlikable characters that have no immediate payoff.

LotR definitely gets more studio love and is less of a snooze. The set pieces and green screen is much nicer,

What? To me "upset" would look like people spending a lot of time invested in this cause about how Black casting of white characters is ruining media and entertainment.
