If that were to be the case, then all they had to do was go out and sign him. There was no need to go through the facade of enlisting a search committee to vet GM candidates only to totally ignore their recommendation and get some guy whose major qualification was that he was in the room with Bill Belichick. Naw, that's just Cal trying to blow smoke up our collective behinds.

Cal wanted to hire Caserio years ago but
-allegedly told Deshaun he’d be involved
-hired a search firm (Korn Ferry)
-hired (or sought input from) another search committee/advisers (Andre Johnson, Tony Dungy, Jimmy Johnson, Spurs CEO R.C. Buford, and Executive Director of Fritz Pollard Alliance Rod Graves.)
    -held sham interviews

Cal wanted to hire Lovie years ago but
    -hired Asschin from Penn State
-hired some 65-year old WR coach who he fired after a year
-whittled down a search to 3 finalists, none which were Lovie Smith

    Calhoun playing 5D chess :D:rolleyes:

Arm jitters and accuracy is one thing, but Im most disappointed in his mental prep and how he lauded his processing ability as a strength coming out of Stanford. He's playing scared and uncertain and rarely just goes and make plays choosing to stay rigid within the confines of the play script. No self creation from broken plays at all and missing the easy stuff on top of that.

I'm glad this happened if true.

I think Caserio is going to be a great GM if Cal let's him do his job.

I'm not sold on Mills at all, however it's obvious to see that Pep isn't doing him or the offense any favors.

There's no pre snap movement, no audibles, no trick plays, etc. If it's 1st down you know for a fact they are just gonna do a bland inside hand off. 3rd and 10? Yup a little check down to Burkhead.

I'm not saying you have to do all this ridiculous flair but you look at other teams offenses and it's night and day. At some point you have to look at your record 0-3-1 and realize what the hell do I have to lose anyway, open up the f***ing playbook.

My only issue is that most of a passing scheme resides in that intermediate area that Mills is struggling with so much. Not everything is going to go deep and if he continues to air mail 10-20 yard sideline throws and skipping balls to guys on crossers and flats then what good is he to anyone? Funny enough Im still fine watching him play each week this year there is nothing to lose. Maybe this dude starts tearing it up. Not what I would expect but the universe is funny like that sometimes.

Lovie is trash, Pep is trash, and Mills is trash. Out of the three, I'd say Mills has the best shot at improving, but that's not necessarily saying much. At the end of the day, I just hope that stupid ass tie at the beginning of the season doesn't cost us the #1 pick this year.

I think his function is to run the conservative ball control offense for Lovie. It was always weird that so many wanted to give him all the credit for anything good done by the offense last year. I remember Culley trying to redirect some praise to Kelly at one point.

I think there is a track record of Pep being good at working with QBs, but that doesn't mean he knows how to design a scheme or call plays.

Starting at around the 9 minute mark, these guys break down the last Texans game. Their overall assessment from breaking down the tape of the first 4 games is that, 70-80% of the issues with the offense are on Davis Mills and 20% is on Pep Hamilton along with receivers, tight ends, and offensive line. Davis has open options. He just has happy feet, isn't going through his reads, and has been inaccurate. Could he improve? Of course he can, but it's time to stop blaming everyone else when the majority of the issues start with him. Seen plenty of people try to say that Nico hasn't been open, yet in this last game he was routinely getting open vs JC Jackson, one of the best corners in the league. The majority of the time that he's open, Davis simply doesn't go his way or is wildly inaccurate. That's not on Pep. Pep needs to get better, but unless Davis can start executing what's available, it doesn't matter what plays are called.

It would really be helpful to know the concepts and plays the Texans are running to fully understand "blame". Amatuer analysts are awesome and offer a useful glimpse into the obvious, but there is way too much read, recognition and assignments on any given play in professional football. Without knowing what the concept is and what the family of plays it originates in it becomes more difficult. Its a reason why I really like watching JT O'Sullivan and his QB School channel he had several videos last year about Mills, but has yet to put one out yet this year. He really dives into what a professional QB is seeing and what the concept/play could be to offer a better glimpse IMO. The dudes on your video did a great job though not trying to knock them at all just adding on and my 2 cents are that Pep Hamilton is really bad with game theory and situational football if the best he can muster to give all us fans is that "maybe playing Rex Burkhead in certain situations is establishing a pattern" ... this dude is supposed to be a lifelong football guy.

edit: here are the Davis Mills breakdowns from last year in case anyone wants to check it out: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=qb+school+davis+mills

I watched the QB School breakdowns already. I watch his channel for alot of breakdowns, including CJ Stroud and Bryce Young. Both of their college tape breakdowns by the same guy are far beyond anything that Davis Mills showed in his college breakdown videos, also from the same guy. If Davis can't even play up to the level that he did last year, which wasn't good enough to be a franchise qb anyway, then it's time to stop making excuses and prepare for the next Texans QB. The real question is whether Pep should also be on his way out and/or Lovie.
