What didnt you like within the film sequences that you posted? He was making the right plays in the Alabama game against a top notch defense. Dumping down when nothing available and not forcing too much. That guy has so much damn arm strength he actually has to reel it in. The effortless velocity and range he has is incredible and it was apparent that he had gotten better at quarterbacking from his high school film.
There's plenty to like in the Texas game. Going through reads is not one of them. I watched it very closely and from the snap to when he throws the ball, he is staring down his intended target the entire time and never goes to another read. Not to say that he can't do it, but the Texas game certainly isn't proof of it.
Having 3 1s on the OL + Pierce, Cooks & Collins is a pretty decent foundation (+ the potential of adding another high-end weapon with Cleveland's 1). It is not a GOOD roster by any means - but it has, I think, enough pieces to begin the next phase.
I didnt see a guy who was noticeably locked in. He's throwing the ball where the play could be made in particular his deep balls. He needs to work on his touch because he should have had at least 2 long TDs in that game. He isnt using his eyes like CJ Stroud to look off coverage (yet) but if he was tipping his targets then Alabama would have smothered him and run away with the game and that didnt happen either and ultimately hard to determine much off of 12 throws and an early injury, but some of those were special and required equally special catches, but thats football.
We'll also have a massive amount of cap space next year as well. We certainly won't be a good team next year, but we can be significantly better. We should be getting John Metchie back, we could potentially add a nice receiver in the draft or free agency. Center/guard in free agency or draft, and potentially a nice QB upgrade and the offense should be pointed in the right direction. As for defense, our biggest need is at linebacker. Christian Harris should help with that, but we still need more talent there. Better run stuffers on the d line would be nice, but really linebacker is where we desperately need better players, especially if Lovie is sticking around.
I didn't say he was doing something wrong. I just don't think you can evaluate his ability to progress through reads based on the Texas game. We need to see him play in more games. The sample size is just too small right now.
I whole heartily agree. He has the arm strength and he played well against Ala. but in the NFL it's different. I don't think he can play that way in the NFL based upon what I'm seeing. You have to be able to present the defense with options and he is not fast, he doesn't go through progressions, I just do not see it. How do you think he will be in the NFL?

It’s really weird to claim Stroud is athletic and in same breath say Ewers isn’t. Ewers is more mobile, explosive and has more off platform ability. Stroud is a polished pocket QB, who might test ok athletically for a QB but similar to Mills it isn’t used in game.
Heck yeah thats totally valid about what he needs to become and improve on in order to be a successful professional, but the kid hasnt played that much ball yet. Barely got his own team and still has alot to prove. Its hard to say what he will be in another year or two, but he has all the tools. I'll be keyed into his ability to read and recognize and use his brain to enhance his God given abilities too since I think thats what you meant by "fast" his ability to process - on top of a good work ethic because THAT is usually the difference when comparing guys who are all blessed with skills. Give it some time he's in good place with a good coach and hopefully it works out for him.
Who will take over the whiteboard sessions from Gruden? Those were my favorite glimpses into these young men and how they think on the field.
I think Stroud would do well in that area, seems like a smart kid. I do want him to succeed, specially if the Texans draft him. But, I still have my doubts about Ohio St QBs
Why is it that Verbal Christ (BTW, I LOVE THAT NAME) get what I'm saying but you don't? I'm not saying he's bad, he has a nice arm but right now he's a project. He is a one read QB that offers SOME mobility. If he came out now, he would be a 3rd - 5th rnd pick at best. In all the highlights, I never saw a play he made off script. To be successful in the NFL, you have to be accurate, mobile enough to make off script plays and be able to go through progressions....At least 2 of the 3. Brandy has proven you can be very good at 2 of the 3 but outside of him, it's extremely rare.
I get it trust me, but it wouldnt be fair to Drake Maye that I would lessen his value because of Mitch Trubisky. Each situation has so many different variables. Being gifted physically is not enough in the NFL. Who was the last NFL QB to win a ring without having the reputation of being able to pick apart a defense? Nick Foles? Joe Flacco? Its imperative that these young QBs demonstrate their mental preparation process in different situations. Guys who aced the Gruden QB camp sessions like Mahomes, Watson, Russ, Wentz, Carr all seem to be doing well in the NFL on varying degrees. The guys who struggled like Mariota, Manziel, Kizer, Taj Boyd, Hackenberg etc.. all were just JAGS because they dont have it upstairs.
I like Stroud only thing that scares me is he seems like a statue. Rarely scrambles for a 1st down. Arm strength and iq I think is nfl ready.
Its strange. Especially his reaction when reporters ask him about it. A little to brazen with the "Im getting paid to throw the ball not run it". Funny thing is he has enough athleticism to be a Russ type where he can just go get you a first down with his wheels and then regroup for the next set of downs. Its my biggest gripe about him as a player. He could make himself so much more appealing if he could do that more often.
Exactly! 100%! Somebody gets what I saw. He stared down every WR in high school and college. In all of the highlights, he never looked off.
Yeah I do. I'd be really happy with Bryce Young too. I just hope whoever it is gets the proper coaching which is the biggest problem I have with taking any QB really high right now and why I may be leaning into just going safe a defender.
