The “consensus number one pick” just seems silly and is more a Jabari booster camp thing…. The “consensus number one pick” ended up going third so that should tell you about the consensus…. No one was really surprised Paolo went first, they were surprised there was no talk out of the Magic. I still think Jabari was the third best player in the draft and I will root for Jabari to take this rockets team to winning basketball.
Same thing with Politics. Our whole society has morphed into this. I avoid the D&D for this reason and hope that we can come to the sports forum for a respite from it.
It will always be crazy how it played out. Orlando had a damn press conference for the Jabari workout and saw him live and in person and in the end went another direction. The narratives drove the talking points during this draft cycle and the players shock and blushed faces on draft night made me feel bad for them to an extent.
Orlando Magic are notorious for their draft misses. https://orlandomagicdaily.com/2022/06/28/orlando-magic-can-hope-paolo-bancher-nba-drafts-best/ Magic FO/ownership were scrambling days before draft for an interview/workout with Banchero and he turned them down. Crazy way to run a business.
19 yr olds are finished products. Their game cannot/will not expand Ever. In this reality, all kids reach their prime on draft day. Interesting take.
It's pretty funny that some people believe a 22-year old PG who is below average in most metrics will turn into a max player within another year, but a 19-year old rookie will just be stuck at what he has shown and no more.
Interesting you edited out the beginning of the quote. It's going to be a long season, better be ready for both the highs and lows of a rookie Jabari season.
You want to go there? Tell me what I edited out. I included what I was commenting on. Don't get it twisted. Verbal's take was beyond off. Basically saying Bari was a finished product. He's gonna be good at this but don't expect him to get better at that. Tell me this, why do players pay Dream $10000 a wk? Just to hang out? I mean why in the world do teams have shooting coaches? Kobe averaged 8 pts a game as a rookie. How is he considered one of the best ever? Could go on and on and on.... "Nobody should want him to try and do more than that. He is not going to be a guy who self creates and sets the table for others and that is perfectly fine." Yeah ok. Thanks for the input bangbang.
They will come back, this was one pre season game against the worst team in the NBA. The Spurs are going to blatantly tank this year. Expect Jabari to have some games where he struggles just like Jalen did, and still will this season.
Yeah I wasn't gonna go there although it's another example of kids getting better. Think he's gonna be much improved this yr.
Nah, but going by this thread it seems you prefer writing generic replies and strawmen because you are too lazy to have actual arguments or any kind of depth in your posts.
True, but the concept of pairing Franz Wagner with Jabari was not dumb at all. They could have had two lethal big men shooters who can defend. That made sense since they seemed to have invested enough in the backcourt in terms of floor generals already - why go with another in Paolo? Unless they felt that within X amount of years Paolo would develop into a superstar - and that decision made only with the help of film and in-house analysis after watching Jabari have by all accounts an outstanding workout in their building and like you said Paolo snubbed them. I cant assume they were wrong, only that they dont have a good feel for roster construct like Raphael Stone seems to have. Jabaris biggest gift to teams is that he could have fit with anyone. Shooting and playing D translates to any team, any scheme. Paolo was always going to be a hub and engine for whoever selected him, but in PS game 1 Orlando decided to use him as a pick and roll big! LOL did you read Paolos post game comments? Anyways I digress. The way things shook out will probably end up helping Houston win more games and rings than what Orlando and OKC did last year Im confident in that.
I really don't see something in here that should twist anyone's panties in a wad...... Hiding behind "well he's 19 and no one ever improves...." is just lazy. Of course there's the possibility that Jabari becomes like a 6'11" primary option, shot creator, and all world defender but too many of you default to his most optimistic view and throw a b**** fit when anyone dares bring up Jabari's weaknesses.
What does this even mean? Who's hiding behind anything and who threw a b**** fit? Not making much sense.
He was never consensus # 1. No consensus #1 would ever not be able to create his own shot in today's NBA.
