Because if the guy you draft just because you need a QB isn't a top guy or generational talent, you've set your franchise back for another 7-8 years or so. I don't see the guy you're talking about in this class.
Above what? Sure you can, do you want to go through the Watson stuff all over again? I'm talking about before the perversions became public. You know like signing a contract and requesting a trade less than a year later. Pass on that.
I already did. Stop lying. Literally every publication has Herbert higher. Lamar is not on the level of Allen or Herbert. If Lamar keeps up his passing skills that he’s shown he can be in the conversation, but bottom line, he doesn’t have the arm talent and dissecting skills Allen and Herbert do. And both Allen and Herbert offer the same skill sets with their feet that Lamar does
At the end of 21? Herbert’s second season? No, Herbert was already better than Lamar. Lamar was hurt that year. If you’re talking 2020 season that ended in 21, I would hope Lamar is better than a rookie (who happened to have the best rookie season of all time)
Yes Caserio is above it but if all else is equal why not go with the other guy? We are not talking about a can’t miss prospect or a no brainer 1st pick like Manning or Lawrence…
The Saban connection The O’Brien connection The love for Alabama players connection The Alabama program connection
If there is genuinely a can't miss franchise QB in that 24 draft, you aren't going to be able to move up for them. Guys like Mahomes and Watson weren't see as can't miss in their draft year. They are the type of prospects that come along each year that have all these question marks. They just happened to be two that worked out. The super franchise changing QBs that some here want, the type who are no brainer #1s, are not guys you get to trade up for.
You got hurt feelings, Deshaun hurt your feelings so you’re gonna avoid his agent/QB coach. That’s ****ing dumb. “Deshaun requested a trade so CJ might request a trade later too! Watson all over again!” Oh no, he requested a trade! The horror! How dare he! I’m sure you (don’t) have that same energy for teams when they cut guys before their deals up. Honor the contract right? Just an example Texans currently eating $12.8M in dead money from Zach Cunningham. “Zach Cunningham signed a 4 year contract extension with the Houston Texans on August 31, 2020 worth $58 million.” “Houston released him on December 8, 2021” Why didn’t they honor his contract?! Honor the 4-year contract! He signed for 4 years! Not a year. “Just business man.” Sure is. Just business. Nothing personal. Were you one of the massage therapists that filed a suit against him? You and some of your buddies got some deep, hurt feelings. Avoid a QB/top player because of his agency or personal QB/position coach. LOL GTFO. Good thing Nick ain’t that ****ing dumb. I know you (and a few others) want blame Deshaun for everything. He is the devil reincarnated. It wasn’t Deshaun who fired Rick Smith and Brian Gaine. It wasn’t Deshaun who promoted the HC to GM. It wasn’t Deshaun who hired Jack Easterby. It wasn’t Deshaun who made terrible trades. It wasn’t Deshaun who overpaid their own and in free agency. It wasn’t Deshaun’s fault J.J. Watt requested (and was granted) his release It wasn’t Deshaun who hired Nick Caserio. It wasn’t Deshaun who hired David Culley and Lovie Smith. It wasn’t Deshaun who wanted to hire Josh McCown. It is not Deshaun’s fault they’re 0-3-1. That’s your boy Davis Mills. It is not Deshaun’s fault Rex Burkhead is in at critical moments ahead of Dameon Pierce. It is not Deshaun’s fault you ordered a Battle Red Bud Light and got piss. It is not Deshaun’s fault Cal McNair undercooked that burger, served you and gave you food poisoning. Spoiler Deshaun is to blame for his off-field issues (which he is dealing with.)
It doesn't appear that I'm the one that's butthurt. My feelings weren't hurt and things turned out the way I thought they would when Watson was drafted. Not for the reasons that happened, but the results were the same. I saw Watson as a selfish player on the field. Stroud isn't a generational QB. So therefore he's not worth a top pick and yes Ithe only way I use a top pick on a DM guy is if he's a generational type guy. Otherwise you're setting yourself up for a rinse and repeat of Watson, who I don't think is a generational type guy either. I see Stroud as a guy who uses bad judgement in selecting the people he's choosing to work with.
Lol…Deshaun demanded a trade before he played a single down on that new contract. That’s a little different than releasing a guy who gets all his guaranteed money. Also it was Watson that continually advocated for O’Brien…so by default he deserves some blame, no? No one is absolving Cal here…but the idea that Watson is some damsel in distress is just silly.
Young is better then Stroud so we won’t be necessarily avoiding him because of his agency it would be simply taking the better player.
My point is....NOTHING is assured. It's all a risk. Most GMs are going off of the same data we have, so they aren't 100% sure. However, the HIGHER you pick, the lesser the risk. And my ideology is teams like the Colts, the Titans, etc.who have built up their teams w/o drafting a QB with a Top pick are good but they are not going anywhere. You have to take care of that position first!
Every conceivable metric points to Stroud as a better QB so far this year. It will be fun to kick this around at the end of the season, but hopefully it doesnt get reduced to complimentary pieces arguments and subjective analysis. There is a reason why Stroud is still the Heisman favorite (not that it matters that much) so within that thought there should be more room to not only be critical of guys we dont like, but at the same time to acknowledge any addition would possibly be an improvement over the current situation. I'd be fine with Young as QB too for the record. Im not in love with his measurables, but I give him credit for being able to flourish under Bill Obrien. Each top QB prospect from this year and even next offer unique abilities and strengths which would help this team - biggest question is WHO will be able to extract the most from them? Is this staff really qualified to mold a high drafted QB? How would Young come onto this team and system and be better than anyone else?
A lot of variables go into play tho Stroud kept most of his weapons JSN and Harrison Jr Young has a whole new cast Young has already win the Heisman trophy And same I would be ok with Stroud too hence the picture of him with pep and Lovie at OSU pro day last year
Regardless of the season, let's just agree that Lamar is better. Also, I thought Dan Marino had the best rookie season of all time?
