Allen is a far better passer, it’s really not even close. Lamar has taken a step this season…….so far. We will see if it’s sustainable

Holding my nose Levis. Bigger, stronger arm, from what I can tell he's Allen light. Young is just to small for my taste as an NFL QB. Of course I could be wrong.
The problem with passing on a QB at the top is you get so few chances to draft there. If you nail that pick with an elite OL or DL you get better and win 2 more games the next year, now you're picking 10th. Good fortune is an infrequent visitor.

How so? In 5 weeks of football how do you determine the 24 class is cleaner when that wasn’t the narrative previously?
It was the narrative, people just ran with the 23 class being better than it was. It’s still a solid class but all the top guys have warts. Maye really solidified the 24 class. All of them have size, athleticism, arm, moxy and pedigree. Plus, they’re all young
Round and round this argument goes. Every NFL team has a decade plus list of QB flameouts in between their stars. We can bemoan it but it’s not a failure it’s the norm. Buffalo between Jim Kelly and Josh Allen. Miami between Marino and now maybe Tua? Browns between Bernie Kosar and Watson. Chicago hasn’t had a star QB since McMahon. What was the last star QB for NYJ? Namath?! Patriots were the laughingstock of the league for decades before Brady. Very, very rarely do you transition like GB did from Favre to Rodgers. Point is there is no brilliant strategy to identify and find your QB. The Manning, Elway, surefire # 1 picks come what every 5-10 years? Plenty of MVP talents like Mahomes and Rodgers didn’t go # 1. You just have to get very, very, very damn lucky that a plethora of things come together in draft position, scheme, health, coaching, character, talent, etc. and you finally land your guy.
I think this is a great point and reminder--franchise QBs are rare and the norm is average to below that. But the last line from @Phillyrocket is the most important, because if we do decide to draft a QB with one of our first rounders should we not be bringing in a new staff to help grow and develop that player? If so, then the likelihood of Lovie/Pep surviving the off-season has to be considered low, unless Caserio is willing to gamble on having that new shinny QB dealing with two staffs, two systems, etc. in his first 2 seasons--not optimal for developing your franchise QB. I know many (including the Fatman) believe there is no way Lovie is one and none. If they're accurate perhaps Davis gets another year of development and we focus on BPA with our picks. This site will likely implode if that happens. What I don't want to see is what happened to Carr, dude was shark bait for years--it ruined him. The way the OL played yesterday, I'm starting to feel sorry for Mills. When he stood strong in the pocket he actually made some nice throws. The ST players gave us a chance with that KR fumble recovery, but the play calling and poor pass blocking killed our chance of tying the game. It's almost like were afraid to win.
Carr was sacked a lot, just like Burrow, but we need to stop with the excuses because even Carr admits he wasn’t dedicated to the game in the way he would have needed to be to succeed. He was a last in and first out type of guy. He wasn’t likely to have been good anywhere.
If you don't think leading the league in sacks 3 of your first 4 years and setting the all time being sacked record didn't contribute to his suckage then we can agree to disagree. He may not have been dedicated as he should have, but if I'm getting the **** kicked out of me year in and year out at work, maybe I'd get out of there when I could as well.
Every year the QB class gets scrutinized as the season goes on and next year's class is always better. Let's face it, Levis and McCown is McNair/Easterby's wet dream. Either way, @J.R. hit the nail on the head here.
