I wouldn't consider Herbert as being great, good, yes but not great. And if we don't draft one this yr, who's to say we'll be in position to draft one next yr. It's no guarantee will be the worst team again next yr.
Herbert has the best first season ever, the best first two seasons ever and on his way to the best first three seasons ever. He’s a long playoff run away from being elite. He’s better than your boy Lamar
Any vet journeyman QB could probably do better than what Mills is doing right now. By most accounts Mills IS the worst QB in the NFL. Shouldnt be too hard to improve from that position while creating a disruptive defense. Deep down I would probably still go with QB because it IS the area that impacts winning the most, but Im perfectly fine with building up the defense first and waiting a year or two. Plenty of QB talent coming down the pipe.
Yes, kick the can down the road to draft Quinn Ewers who *checks notes* has played all of 1.5 games! Wait wait wait, let’s tank for Arch in 2027! Arch Manning! 2A Louisiana football! Is that like 2-hand touch 7-on-7 in Texas? https://www.audacy.com/sportsradio6...d-be-3-star-prospect-with-different-last-name https://usatodayhss.com/lists/arch-manning-isidore-newman-2022-schedule-final-score-stats I know we have a lot of Texas honks. Caleb Williams, OK. The rest? … Caleb Williams? Drake Maye? Quinn Ewers? Shedeur Sanders? J.J. McCarthy? Kaidon Salter? https://www.profootballnetwork.com/2024-nfl-draft-prospect-watchlist/ https://www.draftcountdown.com/rankings/2024-nfl-draft-qb-rankings-shane/ Spoiler
Quinn Ewers would probably be a better option than Mills right now. Lucky for Houston they will find themselves at the top of the draft until they can regain a competitive edge so they wont need to decide on 37th ranked QBs in random guy rankings.
With the trade down from 1-1 this yr it should include a 2024 1st. That will give you three 1sts and you should be able to get one of Williams, Ewers,Maye. All of whom I like better than any QB in this class.
Or we can do the same thing that's lead to the inept franchise we've been since 2002. Draft a QB because you need one instead of taking a decade long starter. I guess you want to go back down the Carr, Peppers rabbit hole again and 2 decades of mediocrity. Fans just cant learn to stay patient during a rebuild. Hopefully Cal can be more patient than some of the posters on this MB.
If Cameron Ward shines against USC next weekend then I am on the bandwagon for him. Pick BPA with the Texans own first and then select Ward with Cleveland's pick? Maybe trade down with that pick to pick up an extra 2nd? Dont want to get too cute though.
I don't understand your logic....I never do but in this instance, you're really not making sense. You proclaim Allen is better than Lamar even though they have similar playing styles, just because Allen has 2 more playoff wins. However, Herbert hasn't been NEAR a playoff game nor put up near the stats Jackson has put up but Herbert is better?
Yes, let’s keep drafting fake “generational”, “never seen before” edge rushers who don’t get second contracts with team! “Drafting (and reaching) for a QB, the same thing that’s led to the inept franchise we’ve been since 2002…” They’ve drafted 2 QBs in the first round. David Carr Deshaun Watson David Carr was 20 years ago. You act like this is a common occurrence for them. Like they constantly reach on bad QBs. Yes we get it, you don’t like this QB class so kick the can down the road (at least one more year). They may not like this class either. I have no idea. If they don’t, fine. No, they shouldn’t reach for one. Fact of the matter is they don’t have their long term coach or their long term QB. Yes, they’ll need a CB and edge rusher and LT and everything else but until they find a QB… Colts were thought to have a good roster. They don’t have a QB(and haven’t since Luck retired). So they’re not very good. Saints/Steelers have ready made teams. Surprise, surprise, 1-3 and don’t have a QB. Browns have a good roster. They didn’t think they could win with Baker so they go get Deshaun. Where did the great Von Miller and Bradley Chubb and Chris Harris and Bradley Roby take the Broncos after Manning retired? Oh right, they didn’t have a QB. On and on and on… So yes, you can have Will Anderson, Derek Stingley and Jalen Pitre and they’ll be good, they’ll be fine. Also probably be sitting at home the 3rd week of January.
So you're willing to settle for good and a few more wins now and have the same type franchise they've for decades, instead of showing a little patience and waiting to get a true franchise QB. This just in, McNair ain't letting Caserio pick Stroud and his trash representation.
I see you like repeating history. Get the pieces in place then get your QB on a rookie contract if you want to have a better chance at a championship. No team has won a championship with their QB taking up more than 15% of the cap. Getting your QB last keeps the championship window open longer. 5-8 years. The only way you draft a QB in the next draft is if there's a Manning/Luck/Elway type prospect available. There's not in this draft.
The Seahawks are predicted, by all Draft pundits, to pick in the Top 5 and with Young, Stroud and Levis available and with Hooker and others having good seasons, I wouldn't trade up. However, that's just me.
I see your point but I agree with J.R. If they are drafting #1, you have to get the best QB. Look at the Colts and the Commanders as examples. Drafting edge rushers does not constitute you will have a definite winner. The QB has the ball in his hands 100% of the time, an edge rusher plays maybe 60% - 70% of the defensive plays. So, the QB has more impact.
2024 is a better year for QBs. I would rather get a better OL, defense, and skill positions in 2023 and not waste a year of a top QBs rookie contract.
