just finished ep4. i hope it picks up. the story isn’t too captivating and hard to care about any of the characters. also is chef gordon ramsey the good or bad guy? it’s like i’m not sure who the real villain is.
i think we have officially given up. made it halfway through the last episode and at no point have been interested in finishing.
This show is good but not enjoyable if that makes sense. There was finally one character that I liked and in true GOT fashion they kill him in the same episode. There's just a bunch of unlikable scheming *****.
At this point the show is making it really easy to chose a side. Team Black all the way. Rhaenyra and Daemon are so much more likeable than Alicent and Cole. Alicent is Queen Karen.
I like that both sides are imperfect and you could make a case for supporting either of them just as easily as you could demonize them. It makes it feel more realistic, there's no cartoon villains. I can believe they all believe they are the hero in their own story.
There definitely isn't a mustache twirling villain here but so far team Green seem to be judgemental pricks. I would say look at the temperament of Alicent's children vs Rhaenyra's children. Shows what type of mothers they each are.
Spoiler: episode 7 Rhaenyra (to Daemon on the hookup): "I'm not a child anymore" Me: yea, but you're still uncle and niece. How y'all be getting married.
Very true, but from her perspective she sees a threat to her children and a woman who never cared about doing the right thing, someone who just did as she pleased no matter who it hurt. You wouldn't want to be at the mercy of someone like that... you wouldn't want someone like that being your ruler. So you have an annoying Karen and a completely careless, incompetent woman who is set to inherit the throne. At least that's what you have from certain perspectives. All that said, I'm on team black too.
10/10 episode. Team Black all the way. Also some Queen Allicent doing Savage X Fenty promos. Spoiler: Viserys Queen
I'm a bit confused Spoiler The guy in the fireplace is the person whose neck Damon snapped? So all four of them are in on the deception?
Correct. Spoiler They all conspired to fake his death. The Princess likes/loves him in her own way and knows he's a good man. She did not want to actually hurt him. So they killed someone else and used the first to mask that it wasn't really him.[/quote]
The way it's been portrayed on screen only... R did offer to marry their children together, an offer which would avoid any of the oncoming crisis. It's also extremely unlikely that R would seek to eliminate Alicent's children the way her father (hand of king) manipulated her into believing. The only thing R does that's wrong is that she wants to F whoever and doesn't care about being a lady. She hasn't shown any malice or cruelty that would make her a bad ruler. We all know where this is going, and its "tragic." It's a war bred out of the ambition of Hand Hightower's ambition alone.
I'm not saying those things are accurate, I'm saying that's how it could appear from Alicent's perspective. She has her father in her ear plus she can't trust R after she lied to her face about being a maiden. It's not cruelty that would make R a bad ruler, it's incompetence and her not caring about her duties. She had a duty to the realm to remain a maiden and produce offspring from ONLY her husband. Everything that happens will be a result of her irresponsibility.... even if it is understandable from a human standpoint.
Oh no doubt, she's irresponsible. I just think they kind of portrayed this weak on screen. Alicent turning to outright hatred against R over the lie is weak to me. She lied about sex. Between the two of them, Alicent is the least likeable. Her children are abusive brats, her father is a scheming snake, she is a whiny B. Yeah, Daemon is a horrible rogue scoundrel, but R is basically fine except from being a medieval slut.
I'll put it this way. I find Alicent far more toxic and and annoying but I have more sympathy for her mainly because of the fathers each of them have. R was very lucky with the father she got. He's a very unique father for that world and culture in that he actually cares about the mental state of her daughter rather than just seeing her as a walking vagina that serves a political purpose. Alicent definitely has the more traditional father of that world where he couldn't give two ficks about her emotional well being and just sees her as a tool. And the the way each father treated their daughter shows in their daughters' personalities. R is very non judgemental but also not that responsible and Alicent is essentially a Karen.
To me it makes sense from her perspective. Alicent has committed her entire life to her duty to her family an her duties to the realm as Queen, she does countless things she hates every single day as a result of this. She then sees a spoiled brat of a princess who goes around doing whatever the hell she likes completely ignoring duty....and those who could get hurt as a result of it. When R seduces Ser Criston Cole, does she care that if they are discovered it would mean his execution? Did she care about what that kind of scandal would do to her family, to the realm? No, she just wanted some dick and didn't care about the repercussions. That alone is enough to make a person like Alicent hate her....but add to that the fact that her children are an existential threat to R's claim to the throne and that makes it even worse. Now let's add on R seeming to kill her husband and marry her uncle who previously killed one of his spouses and is seen as bloodthirsty, and R's children attacking one of your children with a knife and blinding them in one eye......are you really going to trust the lives of your children in their hands? Nothing anyone can do would stop making those children a threat to R, Daemon, and their children and let's not forget that R's defining characteristics thus far are her selfishness and her impulsiveness. Given that, I COMPLETELY understand her actions even if I find her personally unlikeable. Now sure, this is not stating things necessarily how they actually are, but how they'd likely appear to Alicent given her viewpoint and limited knowledge. The fact that I can steelman either side here is what makes the story so compelling and realistic to me.
