I love Mancini as a person, and while he's better than what he's performing, something looks a little off. He's had some bad luck, but at the same time he's had some very bad swings. Non-zero chance he accepts his end of the option. Only question is, do the Astros say yes too if he does.
If he goes 5-11 vs Philadelphia, that puts him at 0.3001. Assuming he doesn't bat again today (I hope not, since it means the Rays tied the game or worse), he needs to bat 0.454545 against Philly to get to 300 on the season.
Four hits would put him at EXACTLY 0.300, RIGHT on the nose. So it's actually 0.4444444 to hit 300 exactly.
Montero has been great this year, but with all the money we have committed to the bullpen, combined with the rise of Bryan Abreu, I'm more than fine with letting him walk. Pressly, Neris, Stanek, Abreu, and Maton are all good, plus hopefully Mushinski can take the next step. Also give Dubin some looks at the big league level.
2nd best record in MLB has been clinched. Unless they want to play spoiler against Philly, they can rest a lot of guys in the final series of the regular season.
Can't rest anyone. We've got 5 days off after Wednesday. You put out the lineup card as if you're in a fight for the division.
