Can Derrick Favors become the answer at backup center?

Favors is definitely going to be in the rotation.

 

If the Rockets aren't tanking Favors should get heavy minutes, he is better than any of our backup centers by a mile.

The last time he was on a team actually trying to win (Jazz) he posted 63% TS and positive metrics across the board, albeit in only 15 MPG. However, considering the Rox made Bruno Fernando their 2 way player Stone probably wants to flip Favors at the deadline for assets and then once he is gone convert Bruno to a regular player and have him take Favor's place.

If you think you can rely on Bruno's statistics from 5 minutes per game last season to extrapolate to a full season's stats, you are mistaken. He's not going to approach shooting 65% from the field or average 21ppg/13rpg. If you thought he could do that, you'd make him your starter and build around him.

The Rockets are going to get bullied inside by bigger teams with Sengun starting. A 265lb Favors is much better in the Nene role than a 240lb Bruno. I think Garuba is the young big they try to develop this year and Bruno starts the year on the outside looking in. When Favors gets traded at the deadline, things may shake up for him.

 

Give me a $&&@“” break…..hard to take any comments of yours seriously when they are as unintelligent as this one.

 

I don’t expect those numbers to translate equally through a full season, but I don’t think Favors is head and shoulders above him. Favors’ best quality is his contract. I’d much rather see Bruno get the minutes.

 

I thought he was seriously going to be waived? Along with the other 2 whose names I can never remember. But keeping Maledon.

 

On the one hand you'd like to play the young guy in a season where we're tanking. On the other hand, I'd like to see them play a couple of quality vets to set an example for the rest of the kids. EG is one, I'm not sure who else would qualify.

 

Well, they just converted Fernando. It's really crowded now.

 

I think Favors is the odd man out. Too crowded with Sengun, Bruno, Boban, Garuba, and Smith.

 

I bet we are going to combine him with EG somehow and trade him. KMJ probably out, too.

 

At 31 years old, I don't see why he is on this team really.

Bruno will spend most of season with Vipers.

Insane that anyone really believes he will beat out Favors.

Should not even beat out Garuba if Silas had the sense to play Garuba at 5 instead of 4.

 

Trade fodder

 

Personally, I don't see us getting bullied much. Sengun is a beefy guy that always hits his boxouts, and Jabari/Tari/KJ/Tate is more than enough size to flank him.

Also, we have some sneaky length/size/quickness out there with KPJ and JG.

We will have our problems, but size will not be one of them, IMO.

 

It looks to me that the whole point of the trade was to consolidate multiple contracts into one. If you are just going to cut Favors, the trade was pointless. Boban appears to be the odd man out.

So, they just signed him to a 4 yr deal and you think he’ll be with the Vipers? Nah. Besides, he’s in his fourth year. He can’t even be assigned without his consent.

 

Favors really can't shoot the three well or at all hence it's the 4 out and 1 In.
