Robert Downey Jr. Reportedly In Talks To Return As Iron Man In Armor Wars Scott Campbell 2 daysRobert Downey Jr. may have publicly claimed that he’d done all he could with the role of Iron Man and was looking forward to starting the next chapter of his career, but that won’t do anything to stop the speculation from making the rounds that a return as Tony Stark might happen one day in the future, especially when his first post-MCU effort saw Dolittle bomb hard at the box office and receive brutal reviews. Indeed, people retire from roles all the time before being tempted back by either a great script or a big pile of cash, with Ben Affleck ending his self-imposed exile as Batman to suit up for the Snyder Cut of Justice League and The Flash. Actors also have a frustrating habit of denying that they’re playing a certain part before being announced shortly after, as we saw with Mads Mikkelsen’s Grindelwald and Tatiana Maslany’s She-Hulk. - - << Swipe to view slides >> On that note, insider Daniel Richtman now claims that RDJ is being lined up for a comeback in upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe Disney Plus series Armor Wars, which is the one that makes the most sense from a storytelling perspective. Don Cheadle’s Rhodey has always been inextricably linked to his onscreen best friend, after all, while the plot hinges on Stark Industries technology falling into the wrong hands. Also, if Downey Jr. was to cameo in Armor Wars, it theoretically wouldn’t lessen the impact of Iron Man making the ultimate sacrifice at the end of Avengers: Endgame, because Tony could appear in flashbacks, as a hologram or as the voice of Riri Williams’ Ironheart armor as per the comics, which would keep him dead in continuity but allow fans to see him back on their screens, even just for a little while.
wtf is dc doing?? they should be focused on dishing out 5 movies a year while marvel have their heads in the sand with all these beta characters movie/series.
WB seems to be getting even worse with the new leadership after the HBO/Discovery merger. There are big shareholders who aren't happy with the direction they're taking, either.
I bet the Budget remains the same or even less (pending rdj cameo) Maybe they agree their movie lineup next year doesn't have any instant bangers. I don't expect GotG3 to make a billion at the box office even if it is beloved.
The only role Cheadle should be playing is Captain Planet in a full length real life adaptation film .
So, a colossal CGI fest, with the occasional "oh let's lower our face shield to crack a joke or say something emo." I like Cheadle, like war machine, so will probably watch, but they better have a good script. I am skeptical.
Watched the original Iron Man from 2008 last night and the CGI is just as good and crisp as anything we’re seeing today. I think it just works better with robots than organic stuff.
Will there be a horde of identical cgi minions for him to fight? I very much do need to know before I can form an opinion on this.
Marvel couldn't afford good non-stop cgi back in the day. They did everything old school...real suit, nonstop wires, actors on penny pinching contracts. Total startup mode. That second iron man movie...
Indeed. They were no help against Ultron and *his* horde of identical cgi robot minions though. Tough to find good minion horde help I guess.
