No judgment on DeSantis was made on his actions.

That particular photo makes him LOOK like a b****. Don't know the man well enough to determine if he is indeed actually a b****.

DeSantis deserves an F for Ian. It's absolutely insane that people didn't have a place to go to other than hotels. That's just insane. Even growing up in NOLA, when hurricanes came, they set up disaster areas for people to go to where they could stay for up to a week. Schools or what not. I know this because we had to go to one when our neighborhood was evacuated. The police literally knocks on your door and there's a bus waiting outside.

When a storm like this approaches, you evacuate people, you go door to door and implore people to leave, you give them a place to go and the means to get there. It's absolutely insane that so many people were left to ride out this storm.

I’m not sure where you’re getting this but shelters were set up and officials did go door to door to tell people to evacuate. I posted some links earlier in the thread with that information.

A lot of people rode out the storm either because they waited too long and it wasn’t safer to evacuate or because they chose too.

Technically, Charley was a Cat2 when it made landfall in around the same areas as Ian and thus she might be correct that that area hasn't seen a direct major impact (Cat3+) in that part of Florida for almost 100 years. Ian is expected to cost ~$60B in property damages, ~8x that of Charley (inflation-adjusted).

That shows weakness. It shows he's too sensitive and fearful. Let the reporter finish asking the question then calmly answer it afterward.

He can do it whichever way he wants, without having to ask you. It's not weakness to interrupt a liar.

And whether the voters think he is weak or strong, you will see in the elections. This coming one, and the one in 2024. Have a nice day.

All I know is DeSantis is 10x worse than Trump. I would rather Trump for another 2 terms than ever having DeSantis ... or whatever the next republic might become president.

People in Tampa were evacuated because they focused on the likely path instead of casting a wider net. By the time the storm was strengthening to near cat 5 and moving further south, it was too late. It was a major blunder. DeSantis can't run away from this in terms of accountability. Simply telling people to follow local evacuation orders isn't enough.

When a 12-18 foot storm surge is being forecasted you have to treat it as if a nuke is on the way. That was a tsunami, and the risk of that happening was long forecasted before evacuation orders went out.

Los Santis absolutely wilting under real pressure -- can't fly homeless hurricane survivors to Martha's Vineyard.

That was from 09/27. At that time it was forecast to hit Tampa. She was 100% correct

I'm not sure what the official guidelines are. When we evacuated Monday it was forecast to hit us Wednesday evening. We woke up Tuesday and it had shifted south a bit. Later it shifted south even more and 24 hours later it hit 110 miles south of us.

Clearly you don't want people needlessly evacuating as that snarls things up for those who have to evacuate.

All that being said, Lee County ordered evacuation for Zone C Tuesday afternoon. Zones A and B orders were issued that morning.

Our evacuation orders were given Monday
