I have seen that one I need to watch it again because while I liked it and thought it was well-made it did not make a mark with me like Memento which is his favorite of mine.

    hara-kiri

the original is obviously a classic but the 2011 remake is not bad either

Not ASAP, because, well, you can't see most of them yet I imagine. Here's some recs from a friend who was at Fantastic Fest in Austin the past week:

    The Very Good and Weird:

The Banshees of Inisherin (the In Bruges gang, but not related to it at all)
Bones and All (also horror, and cannibals, and Timothy Chalamet, but not a horror movie at all)
Decision to Leave (from the director of Oldboy)

    The Weird and Good:

    Menu
Unicorn Wars (animated but not for kids)
A Life on the Farm (actual docu-something)
    Chop and Steele (docu?something)
Triangle of Sadness (french black comedy, be prepared for bodily functions)
Medusa Deluxe (mostly for the cinematography/filmmaking aspect of it)

    Horror Stuff:

    Werewolf by Night
    Hellraiser

And something about Ultraman...he skipped it but heard it was great if you liked the whatever it was based on.

Casino and Heat are two great movies from the 90's. From when when I was a kid, there was a George Segal movie, Rollercoaster, that is good

Some good choices here and maybe some..
Here’s a few more of my recommendations:
Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox story - I don’t know if you’re a fan of music or biopics but this is a great parody of the musical biopic. On top of that the music is really good. I’m my opinion this is as good as, This is Spinal Tap for a musical parody.

Glory - on the opposite end a very serious drama about the 54th Black Regiment in the Civil War. A great story of struggle and manhood with excellent performances by Denzel Washington, Andre Braugher, Matthew Broderick and Cary Elwes.

Hero - Chinese director Zhang Yi Mou’s masterpiece with Jet Li and Tony Leung. It’s like Rashomon with one story told from different POV but is a very beautiful movie with some amazing scenes.

Fearless - Another great Jet Li movie. It’s got some outstanding martial arts but is also Jet Ali’s most personal movie as it embodies a lot of his philosophy in martial arts.

Infernal Affairs - The Hong Kong Movie that The Departed was based off of. Masterful performances by Tony Leung who is good he’s finally getting international exposure and Andy Lau who I’m still surprised hasn’t gotten the attention of Hollywood.

The Seven Samurai - The Kurosawa original that was remade as the Magnificent Seven and was very influential for many other movies including Star Wars.
