I am trying to figure out why that was what I wanted. The thing that seems most likely the reason is that both of their singular best skill(s) are outliers even amongst the NBA. The 3 point is shooting with both. Green's athleticism and Jabari's switching. Both that are playoff needs for elite teams as far a as i can tell.
I remember watching a lot of college ball last year. I was like, no way in hell we will get Jabari. He’s too good to not go 1st. draft process comes and I fall for Banchero and Ivey the most, then we get Smith.
Last year, I couldn't decide between Green and Mobley. But we heard that Mobley didn't want to come (or his dad didn't want him to come). So Green it was. For a couple of months, I almost lost faith. Now I am happy we got him. This year, I wanted Smith but thought Orlando was going to take him. So I kind of settled for Banchero and thought that he was great too. What a pleasant surprise that Smith fell to us.
Smith needs to learn how to play off Alpi and how to find the open spots on defense, Alpi can really make his life easier.
LOL uh no. Not with his lack of play making and inability at the rim. Ya'll need to tap the breaks. At this point, I am hoping he is Rashard Lewis with better defense. What does he do that makes him already better than Lewis?
Rashard Lewis and Dirk were massive scrubs that couldn't shoot, or do much of anything when they were 19. You are giving absolutely no room for growth in your constant downtalk of Smith. I'm sure you will be salivating to I told you so if he accomplishes what they did their first year.
6'11" gaurding one of the quickest players in the entire NBA THAT well? If you're not excited about him I just don't know what to tell ya.
What? Rashard Lewis was drafted at 19 years, he most certainly could do something. I have no idea why you are getting so upset when I am just stating facts, he is not currently better than Lewis and he is very far from Dirk. So now it's down talk to say he is not currently better than Lewis and nowhere near Dirk? Get over yourself.
LOL that's not locking anybody down, he had help at the top of the key and at the basket. Green flat beat him to the bucket.
Now that's great to see! Hopefully Jabari replicates that in real games. I think our half court, set defense is going to be better than expected this year. With KPJ, Tate, Green, JC, Jabari and (praying to god he plays meaningful minutes this year) Tari, We should be able to put some clamps on the perimeter. But I'm skeptical about our transition D still...If We don't improve in that area We're in big trouble.
Watch again. There is of course a team element. But if you don't see how great the individual defense Smith plays, cutting Green off once and then sticking to him from the perimeter all the way to the basket, I don't know what you are seeing.
I know Tari is penciled in as a third string/GLeague guy this very moment but he could climb his way into the starting lineup. Pairing Bari with Tari will eventually cause some teams legit problems in the playoffs.
