Yep. I just looked his stats up. Kind of embarrassed that I don’t know him yet. Good player. Yeah his dad was never really anything as a player.
Correct. But he's going to take half the ABs out of McCormick/Diaz' hands in the playoffs. Y'all enjoy that.
Would have been nice to see Altuve pinch with runners on in the 7th to try to get JV the win, but oh well. Also, I think I'm in love with Varsho.
Altuve had the right idea with the bunt. Just couldn’t get it to drop. Something about this Astros team and sucking at bunting…
Putting this pitching staff in context, over the last 40 seasons, no team had had an ERA under 3.00 in the American League. The lowest mark during this period was the 89 A's at 3.09. The Astros currently have a team ERA of 2.92.
The good news is why won't have stupid ghost runners in the playoffs. The bad news is we still don't play them right.
Agree on all counts. Really wanted JV to win 20. Mostly I want him to get to 300 on his career, and he will need every last win. Dubon has no business batting in big spots. While I would not mind Brantley back if he makes a full recovery and the deal is on the right terms, him being back to 2019-21 Brantley is a HUGE if, given his age and history of surgeries on that shoulder. I would love to extend Verlander, and trade pitching depth for a controllable bat (or even two).
“Every team's going to win 54 games, every team's going to lose 54. It's what you do with the other 54 that counts” Astros so far have won 48 of those “other 54” games
Dubon should never see the light of day in the playoffs, there is no reason whatsoever for him to be in the lineup over Chas, Jake, whomever.
That's the most profound thing I've read today. It's still early in the morning, but still really profound.
Something to consider...... Gurriel hasn't been "bad" this year, he has been horrendous. The Astros when they play Dubon have the following in their line up.........Maldonado OPS+ 67, Gurriel OPS+ 82 and Dubon OPS+ 55 or a TOTAL OPS+ of 204 ............ Yordan Alvarez by HIMSELF has an OPS+ of 189. The lose of Brantley is a big one when it comes to roster construction with Mancini struggling. Maldonado, Gurriel, Pena, Dubon and Mancini are all below average MLB hitters this year.... when they all play together that is 55% of the line up being under water and all the pressure falls on Altuve, Alvarez, Tucker and Bregman. Diaz and McCormick are not world beaters this season but at least are above average hitters this season. Diaz has turned it around after a really slow start. The difference between Gurriel and Dubon and Diaz and Mancini is more than you would think when building a roster. As far as long term help and getting another bat in the line up (or two), they may not be able to sign a really good bat AND keep Verlander. The numbers thrown around for Verlander start with a "4" per season for multiple seasons. Signing Brantley is something I would think is feasible but not if we really wants another 2/32 contract like before. A trade is more likely. The Rays and Astros have talked in the past about Lowe and also Arozarena with the Astros.
I'm actually kinda looking forward to winter, after Astros win WS, to see how Click or whoever new GM will fill those needed spots. Hoping for a Tucker re-signing, 1B, and CF. Will a new GM delay Tucker's signing?
He didn't let a ball out of the infield. Should have just let him finish the inning. Game result doesn't matter much so just see if he can finish the inning with just the unearned run scoring.
