I was pointing out it's the coaching, system that matters.

What are y’all doing with #1 overall pick?

    Will Anderson?
    QB?
    Trade back?

Mahomes/Herbert/Hurts have done pretty well this yr.

I would rather have a QB from the Air-Raid system (Which I'm not a big fan of) over the Ohio St., Clemson systems. Both of these systems work very well in college, but doesn't really prepare QB's for the pros.

Trade back and gather even more picks for 2024 and 2025.

Then add as many playmakers as possible this yr, knowing you will have your draft setup for a QB in 2024 plus have even more 1st rd picks in 2023,2024 and 2025 to finish out the rebuild. Caserio can build a dynasty if Cal can remain patient (Doubtful)

That’s exactly my point. System QBs have historically failed in the NFL but now we are seeing more and more successful transitions.

Is Stroud the next one? No one knows for sure but people had a lot of the same concerns for Mahomes coming out of Tech. Trubisky went ahead of him and DW4 for the sole reason that people thought he was “pro ready.”

So by that logic if Burrow stayed at Ohio state you wouldn’t have drafted him??

Probably not and I wouldn't have gotten a QB that ran a pro system on college, so that he was ready for the pro game either.

There's going to have to be a better sample size. I look at Mahomes as an outlier because of his unreal talent, which none of the QBs in this draft have, but Williams and Ewers have. Plus Mahomes had the advantage of growing up around pro athletes. BTW, I wanted RS to trade up far enough to get get Mahomes. It's the single greatest mistake RS made during his time on Kirby and there were many mistakes.

Throw a second and third to Washington and see if they want to get rid of Young since he hasn't lived up to the hype...

Why would you trade for a guy that hasn't lived up to expectations and is coming off of a serious injury?

The sample size is small but I am a bit more optimistic that the few success stories are all within the last couple years. The league finally adapting and changing likely being a big reason IMO. No right or wrong answer, I'm just not as concerned with system QBs as I would have been 5 years ago. It's still actually the main reason why I like Young over Stroud currently.

We need talent. If we get a shot at the best player (Anderson), I think we have to take him. Teams get into trouble when they reach to fill needs. Stay the rebuild course and add talent. If Levis is around when the CLE pick comes up, maybe that's value. Not sold on Stroud or Young and I don't want to do what desperate teams do and draft a "franchise QB" that isn't one.

I look at what Peterson has done this year with his golden boy in JAX and start to think we may need to bring in the right HC coach first. I'm still pulling for Lovie, but I'm afraid my hope for him, Pep and Mills was misplaced. Usually when I get to this stage, something semi-miraculous happens to re-engage my hope for a few games before reality sets in again.

Lovie Pep and Mills are done

Lovie was never our “long term” guy
Pep is out of touch with the NFL
Mills is not a franchise guy

I say trade back with a team that wants Anderson but if not then…

    I say draft Young

But Anderson is very very tempting

But the way Lovie rotates lineman as well as I don’t see Caserio spending a first overall pick on a defensive lineman.

But if they don't see Levis as a franchise QB, would you still want them to take him because of value?
