I sure did, took notes and everything - I did a complete breakdown as scout for my OKC internet group. But I ain't sharing it with you.... DD
Interesting, I did too. And based on my analysis, KPJ shares a lot more similarities with Jamal Crawford, and I actually have stats to back up my assertions.
These people wanting to extend KPJ for $20m plus will be the first ones pissing and complaining about how bad RahFell screwed up and he needs to be fired for it.
Stone translated: So far so good, he hasn't spontaneously combusted. Let's see if he can keep that up.
He had by far the best and deepest interview on media day, extremely self reflective and mature. WOW ! DD
Is that hyperbole? Are there are people that want to extend him to $20M plus per year? It looks like Rockets are offering around the cap hold for next year based on Iko's reporting that KPJ wouldn't likely accept $7-9M/year. I thought the pro-extend crowd was hoping the Rockets would offer in the $12-15M range, and that KPJ would accept that.
There were around 3-4 people saying that $15M is a good deal for a player about to break out with 1-2 of the more crazier ones saying another team will sign him away for $20M per. Correct me if I am wrong though... isn't he a RFA at the end of this season so even if he does break out and some team offers him $20M+, we can still match it if he's worth it?
Yep...all true...I figured now 12m ish - but if he breaks out be prepared to pay more than 20m. I really hope they break up the interviews into segments so we can post the KPJ interview here for all those - uh, non-believers. DD
Yes. But you let him walk at 20m per. I get the feeling Stone doesn't see him as a long term fit unless it's a hell of a deal.
Yes, he will be a RFA. That should damper some of the contract offers for him even if he breaks out and is worth $20M.
Stone is trying to find stars or keep flexibility to get stars. If KPJ is worth $15M-$20M and he gets offered that, I think Rockets might pass or do a sign and trade (if offer is unofficial). If he's worth more than $20M/year, I think Rockets match any appropriate offer.
Hopefully he has moved on from has past maturity issues and breaks out. That would be awesome for us. Actions speak louder than words though, so I will look forward to him proving me wrong on the court.
Of course he is going to say the right things in a contract year. Maybe if he didn't beat up women, drive messed up and leave a game at halftime after failing everywhere else people would believe him
KPJ's cap hold is only $9.7M for 2023-2024. If KPJ breaks out, use cap space and draft capital to bring in a star and maybe another starter, and then use Bird Rights to go over the cap to re-sign KPJ. I don't see a problem if KPJ breaks out. Once the Rockets are over the cap, $8M extra a year probably won't matter too much for 3-4 years until time to extend Jabari and Tari hit.
if he actually grows a lot this season and gets a 15-18 mil offer sheet, matching is good. You always need contracts to trade for that future star and ideally contracts that are positive value
Rockets will have cap space. If they can't get a star or close to it in 2023, I think they punt to 2024. They likely won't need matching salaries for 2 seasons unless they find a star in 2023. The Rockets would match a 15-18M offer if it has a lot of positive value, though for that to be the case, KPJ has to be worth more than $20M.
even if he's just neutral value, you still need SOME contracts to trade in 2-3 years when you're trying to get a star, it's not good if you have only your good younger players that you're trying to keep
