I honestly don't think many of them even believe their BS, they are just overly invested in a narrative so they are going to double down over and over again till there's an objective outcome one way or the other. That's why I don't even really bother arguing with them anymore. I don't think they are discussing the topic in good faith.
You clearly don't know how to read either. Try to actually read this time. I said "Anything over $10M would not be a discount with his performance thus far." Let's test your reading comprehension now. What do you think that means?
LOL if you ever, EVER find yourself on the same side of a discussion with the likes of BTG, that's how you know you are in the epicenter of crazy town.
Idk how to read and somehow got through college. I’m actually impressed even more now. I know what you meant, so let me rephrase it.. Alec Burks makes a lil over 10M, so saying that wouldn’t be a discount is disrespectful
Then why do you find the Harden comparison so disrespectful? I'm not making the comparison, just playing devil's advocate and saying this comparison has been out there for a while.
Now look who is being obtuse???? You either understand my point, or you don't. I work in numbers every single day of my professional life - and there is a saying that garbage in is garbage out. Some of the metrics that the NBA tracks start with a human decision - for instance - was that shot contested? If someone is standing within 2 feet is it contested? Does the defender need to jump for it to be contested? Does a late contest count as a contested shot? Therefore each attempt of a contested shot goes through a human filter first - which doesn't make the data completely accurate and tends to sku the end result. Data HELPS analyze, but so does a seasoned eye, who is watching movement off the ball, attention to detail on it....for instance remember Battier being called the "no stats all star"......yet he was super valuable to winning. So, I get that DATA is important, but people act like that is the end game of evaluation and at best it is 25%....it is just a part of it....IMHO. DD
Getting through college means jack. George W Bush graduated from Harvard. First off, Alec Burk is overpaid. Just because some team overpaid their player doesn't mean we need to as well. KPJ based on his current production up until this point, existing player flaws that haven't really improved, and behavioral flaws that reared its ugly head at least once per season puts his worth in the $10-13M range. There has even been discussions about this topic by people much smarter about salaries and salary caps than either of us. So no, saying that anything over $10M is a discount is not disrespectful. If KPJ feels disrespected by that, then he should have played better. It's as simple as that.
When you say KPJ is comparable to OKC Harden because "box scores", that is a level of bad take that goes far beyond garbage.
One player had at least 2 teams lining up to trade for him and max him out. There is not a single team out there chomping at the bit to do the same for KPJ. That's why it is disrespectful.
Because making the comparison predraft is very different from making the comparison after the guy has already played 3 seasons. If people compared Thabeet to Hakeem after he had been in the league for 3 seasons, that would be very disrespectful to Hakeem. If Cleveland still thought KPJ was Harden-like after 1.5 seasons, they wouldn't have given up on him so easily. They obviously felt that their predraft evaluation of this player had been a mistake.
Definitely doesn’t mean anything, but I had to read something lol. The thing you’re failing to realize is that 10M is not what it used to be, it’s not a lot of money. Like I said before, I’m okay with waiting it out if that’s what they choose. I just know y’all will have a meltdown if he blows up this season and end up costing 20 per lol
You are the one that is failing to realize that $10M IS a lot of money right now for a player who has done absolutely nothing to prove himself. Now, if contracts for role players do explode again with the recent 9yr TV deal extension then we can revisit what a discount actually looks like. But it hasn't and in the current NBA environment, $10M is NOT a discount. It's a good deal for KPJ, but hardly a discount. "I just know y’all will have a meltdown if he blows up this season and end up costing 20 per lol" Hey look, another idiotic claim by you! I am not invested enough with KPJ to give a damn if we keep him or not. We can trade him for a first round pick or sign him for $12-13M and my reaction will literally be "meh". So no, him blowing up and getting a $20M per will not give me a meltdown. If he earned it, he earned it. Hell, I have even said multiple times in this asinine thread that if he blows up, it would be awesome and I would whole heartedly support us maxing out. I support players actually earning their bag which is the problem with you KPJ stans, he has done NOTHING to earn that type of bag.
The Box scores are just rudimentary look at the two players, and easy to consume. Box scores are not useless, but they are not deep dives either......I think they are comparable, clearly I think Harden was the better player in 2011 than KPJ in 2022, but if I had to rate them on a 1-10 as NBA Players then. Harden would be an 8 KPJ a 7 Just my .002 DD
If we completely throw demonstrated potential out the window, I am willing to say it's not as insane as how you initially presented it. Still disagree, but that's fine.
Appreciate it - just the dog days of summer nothing much to talk about until the season I guess. Peace. DD
how is comparing him when he was at OKC at roughly the same age as KPJ disrespectful? No one is saying he is not a Rocket's legend or that he wasn't one of the greatest scorers the NBA has ever seen, this is saying Harden at 22 and Porter at 22......nothing more. It is ok to compare anyone, it is just a discussion, no one is saying Harden sucks....lol. DD
Ya, harden at 22 was already playing at an allstar level and put up 66% TS! Kpj was a horrific 3rd year guy who has been god awful for 3 years
Is it though? They're both strong, left-handed combo guards with size and ISO game Harden is obviously a whole lot better but there are some commonalities. I think y'all are just eager to jump on DD for something
