Then every other 100 win baseball team is inconsistent too because even the best teams go flat at times and end up with a whopping 60~ losses. Astros clinched the division with ease and could probably lose out and still get the #1 seed (they won't). I have zero concerns that how they have played the last 2 days will have any bearing on how they'll perform in the playoffs.
99 wins but largely because of our amazing pitching. The hitting has been inconsistent. Usually, weaknesses are exposed against playoff teams. Inconsistent offense is our weakness. Just pointing that out shouldn’t bother the sunshine pumpers. We all love our team here.
Is the Astros offense any more inconsistent than other contenders? I have no idea how to track that. The only other major AL contender I pay attention to who is supposedly our biggest competitor is the Yankees and they seem highly inconsistent. For long stretches it's been Judge or nothing. I saw that the Cardinals went 40 something innings without scoring a run.
Meanwhile, our old friend Jake Odorizzi have up 8 runs, 10 hits, and 3 walks in 4 innings. Yikes. That's a game-WHIP of 3.25 and an ERA of 18! We definitely won that trade.
When the Astros have whimpered out in the playoffs in recent times it’s been mainly due to lack of timely offense. Astros have lost 2 all time great postseason players in Correa and Springer. Altuve remains but some of these other guys need to step up big time.
