I understand your points and you might even be right. I just happen to disagree and will be happy to be wrong if it ends up that way.
Mostly just trolling those who say rooks will improve but KPj just learning PG won't. Just an illogical way of thinking by basketball dummies. Here is a video by Chop Shop ripping Wood for lack of screening. Spot on. They get it. Silas offense is predicated on screens and Wood with his lazy behind taking up 30 minutes a game screwed up many a thing. Chop watched Wood almost every play on film. But I don't pay bigs that screen, rebound, protect the rim and lack 3-pt range Max money. They get Tari $18M money. And if I have Jabari and Wembanyama.... Sengun is coming off my bench because the others bring defense. I don't care for Sengun defense. Bench players don't get Max money......I hated E Gordon and Ryan Anderson getting max money more or less coming off the bench.....i won't want Sengun getting max money. I don't care if he pulls a fancy pass out of his britches a time or two. Better shoot me some threes "Always" to get Max money and supply some spacing for my facilitators. That's more important. If my facilitators of Green/Porter/JC each get 15 drives per game that's 45 drives in about a games total of 90 possessions. To Sengun 6 to 8 post ups? WTF.....a few drives from the FT line. No contest who I'm backing.....the 3 facilitators needing spacing in the paint.
I still think Sengun can develop a 3 as he is barely 20 years old. As a matter of fact, I think he is about to unveil a mid-range game along with his post game. I'll take Sengun's potential along with Green/Smith than rolling with KPJ/Green/Smith but that's just because I think KPJ is more likely to be a player that flashes and teases potential rather than fulfilling it. Of course, I could be wrong and a full potential KPJ would be amazing (50 point game being a great example) but I just don't think he will get there. Once again, if I'm wrong I'll be more than happy to be wrong, but Sengun seems like a more sure bet for the Rockets playing winning bball in the future.
Why? What has TyTy done? Played SG next to a real PG in Wheeler who got over 6.9 assists per game (7.4 the previous yr) to TyTy's 3.9 assists. [ In one game got 17 assists which brought up his average ] TyTy is slow, can't penetrate vs NBA competition on his own, not a good shooter, not a good floor general, takes ill-advised 18 footers to 19 foot pull ups, and poor defensively. The only thing TyTy is good at is floaters in the lane. From what I hear, TyTy is practicing floaters while others in shoot-around are practicing shooting a variety of shots. The floaters may be good for PnR..... but are we going to PnR all TyTy possessions? All I need is one NBA defender guarding against the TyTy floater....not two. Defeats the purpose of my facilitators. They need to draw the gravity of the defense. KPj does that as he attracts at least the best wing defenders of the opposition more than anyone not named Beal, Morant, Dame, and Doncic.
And that is why the post up is the most inefficient shot in basketball......because studies show they most often end up as a mid range shot. Him shooting more of them doesn't make me want to give him Max money. But you do you and I'll do the smart thing. Haha
And I'll take the likelihood of Sengun being able to play the post, hit the middey, AND develop a 3 while throwing dimes all over the court with Green/Smith than KPJ ever hitting his full potential. Even better if both hit their full potential and we retain them, but if having to choose one over the other I'll take Sengun. And yes, I said retain them both, because unless KPJ can demonstrate he deserves the max this year, I don't think the Rockets have to worry as they can retain both because KPJ hasn't yet demonstrated he has what it takes to get the max.
We shall see. Like most in today's NBA.....spacing in the paint determines a lot of teams efficiency or lack there of. This is why the key word in today's NBA is SPACING!! This is where people always tell me: if we put enough good players around Sengun (Embiid/Jokic) they could win a championship. My answer is always: yeah and if you put enough good players around Dwight Howard as well. Give Porter and JC enough space in the paint with Green, EG, Tari, Jabari.....and watch them shine!! Oh Heavens No!!!!!! They can't succeed without our hero Sengun!!!!! How dare me!!!!!! No player is irreplaceable. I had Sengun comp as Pau Gasol.....more mid range shots secures that comp Gasol could also shoot a 3 here and there. Fancy passer as well. Not worth Max money imo.
Time will tell. As I said, I'll be happy if both develop and we can retain them. Only time will tell if one is superior to the other or both end up having about the same impact on teams. You do still need 5 players and as long as they are both Rockets I'll cheer for them.
To that I can agree on. I do see ways Sengun can contribute and help Green, KPj, JC. But Green, KPj, JC had a packed paint last year and it's amazing how good their numbers were despite the packed paint. Mid year Green and KPj were hitting their 3's which allowed Sengun to operate in the post and from the FT line distance as teams had to respect the shooting of Green, KPj (and Tate 38% after ASB). But take away Wood.....and then KPj (CnS 3's).....replace him with a poor shooting JC or TyTy or Scoot Henderson......guess what happens? Paint could close up for Sengun.....and bye-bye decent stats as Sengun is relegated to being mostly a jump shooter as Green, KPj and JC were last season. Welcome to the club. Better hope Tari and Jabari can get it done the whole season from 3.
Nobody wants KPJ lol. I don't know why his fans invest so much time in trying to prove he's at best Jamal Crawford or JR Smith
Spacing can happen in other-ways than just positioning, when we run sets with real picks & screens (Sengun, Smith, Eason, Garuba) the spacing will appear. We will be in the half court more because everyone will playing defense on the other. Choice is a quick translation or hold to set up the offense. Even playing out of the high post the pace will slow down a bit because we have to transfer back from playing defense. They are so young, I foresee a physical brand of basketball in our future with a larger rotation (fresh players) to get the games pace as high as possible. High motor, high motivation, & bodies everywhere. Should be entertaining to watch. Go Rockets, today is part of our future.
that's exactly what i picked. tough choice between him and sengun, but eason has true two - way potential.
I actually agree even though I choose Sengün over Tari, it’s mainly by default because Tari probably won’t play as much early on and we’re kind of hoping Sengün can be similar to Jokic. But it’s hard to not say Tari because he has potential to be a very good 2 way player and to have that next to Green and Jabari going forward would give us potentially one of the best defensive squads in the NBA for years
