Trump could face up to 1,000 years in prison for his document espionage Finally, the 11th Circuit basically held that the DOJ had already satisfied the most important element of an eventual prosecution under the Espionage Act (18 USC Section 793(d). Here's what Section 793(d) states: "Whoever, lawfully having possession of [a document] relating to the national defense which information the possessor had reason to believe could be used to the injury of the United States or to the advantage of any foreign nation…willfully retains the same and fails to deliver it on demand to the officer or employee of the United States entitled to receive it" violates the Espionage Act and "shall be…imprisoned not more than ten years" for each document willfully retained.
The DoJ focused on the most important thing first - moving forward with the investigations and risk assessment on harm to the US. Now that they got that out of the way, they should come back and appeal the ruling for a special master to screen documents for executive privilege asserted by a former president. The special master should be able to screen for attorney-client privilege, but not executive privilege. That's a bunch of nonsense.
This Special Master maneuver seems to have backfired big time. this is like saying your friend can vouch for u, and then your friend turns around and throws u under the bus…oops
At most it would have delay the investigation. Only way special master strat would have work 4 trump if they were able to get a super partisan republican fixer like Bill Barr to bail trump out. Sadly trump wasted his get out of trouble card on a different scandal
