To clarify, I don’t think dusty sucks, we are winning enough, he’s just aggravating. Dubon should never see the field, gimme Diaz or Hensley. And we traded for 2 rentals that sit on the bench, although Mancini is playing more, he’s still trying to get going. Yuli meanwhile plays more games than anyone and is terrible. The pitching management has been good tho. And my statement about Scarface and his fandom is true throughout clutchfans.
I think I'd love to hang out with ()usty. I just don't like him as a PLAYOFF manager. But he's a decent regular season manager, just not GREAT.
In 2 seasons, overachieved to Game 7 of ALCS in 2020 and lost in the WS with no consistent starting pitching in 2021. What don’t you like about playoff Dusty?
Overachiever in 20? You mean the team that went and should if won the WS the year before and went to the world series the year after?
So now you've upped your opinion from him being a bad manager to him being a decent manager. What changed?
Mancini has started 18 games this month. The Astros have played 19 games this month. Mancini is batting 0.185 with an OPS of 0.685 this month. Vazquez has started 8 out of 19 games this month. He is batting 0.091 with a 0.239 OPS during that stretch.
Sure - but they are not hitting now, and people are still complaining that they aren't playing enough and that Dusty sucks, apparently on one hand for not playing the players that aren't doing well, and on the other for playing the players that aren't doing well (Gurriel). And that's also despite the fact that the players that people are complaining don't play enough are actually playing quite a bit. It seems the starting point is always "Dusty sucks" and then fit the evidence to the conclusion.
lost, lost. I've said before, 2020 isn't REAL. 2021 is forgivable due to the loss of McCullers. But he didn't OVERCOME as I expect a GREAT manager to do. It is the same problem with Bum and Levy. They just couldn't OVERCOME when they were playing for the prize.
That happens with a history. New guys tend to get the benefit of the doubt until they prove otherwise. Hinch was almost perfect until he wasn't. Now some people here hold a grudge. But some will not look objectively at Dusty. He is an untouchable for reasons having nothing to do with baseball. If we could split the difference and have an honest discussion, I'd love it. It's like the mantra that breaking RUTHs record should only be done by a POC. Maris and Mantle just wouldn't do. Therefore Maris got the Asterisk for the Season Record until Aaron broke Ruth's career record. No mention of asterisks for extra PAs for him and even suggesting it was taboo. Aaron and Maris were treated differently.
Set aside the massive difference between breaking a single season record in the first year of a longer season from breaking a career record ... You believe that if a black player had broken The Babe's record in 1961 that he would have been treated well? In 1961? In the Bronx?
I don't have the answers. There are reasons why I don't like Dusty, one of them being his lineups, another being his favoritism, and he's insubordinate, but put all that aside, if he wins us a World Series I'll forgive all and never say another negative thing about him. Gurriel is going to start, and play 1st base throughout the playoffs because we are down a man. Mancini cooled off too much. I hope to Lord Jesus @Squirtle he either hits well or he's pushed down in the lineup. I was a Dodger fan when I was a kid, and I LOVED Baker playing left field. He was one of my favorites.
This is absurdly laughable. Aaron had death threats... There were threats that his daughter would be kidnapped... he had to have full time security... and this was well after 1961
Nobody mentioned Black. Dusty is untouchable because he is a very well liked and respected man with 50+ years in MLB. He will not be fired during a season because of this. And should not be fired at all because his team is winning. Jim Crane and James Click do not care about a few yahoo's on a message board bleating like goats to fire him because they don't like his decisions.
