It comes down to the fact that MAGA controls the Republican Party and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future, regardless of whether Desantis or Trump is the nominee. So long as that is the case, DeSantis will cater to MAGA and thus cannot be trusted. At least not with my vote. What? Martha's Vineyard did welcome immigrants looked after them. They also arranged for them to have services in Cape Cod during the winter months where they can have access to transportation, shelter, food, attorneys able to deal with immigration matters. The fact that you think it would have been more welcoming to keep the immigrants on an island that will leave them isolated and largely shuts down, shows a disregard for their well-being.
Not saying DeSantis does have an impressive resume but such distinctions about military service tend to be scrutinized closely. But if all you care about is fighting Democrats yes I can see why DeSantis would be a good candidate even if he isn't showing to be a fiscal conservatie or for limited government. For me I can think of a few Republicans who would be better who are actually interested in getting stuff done than just picking fights and trolling Democrats with state tax dollars.
