For all of those self proclaimed small government fiscal conservatives who supported DeSantis move here’s something more to consider: If He had just flown the 50 migrants non stop from San Antonio to Boston Logan let’s say he could’ve done that for about $400. / ticket or $20,000 total. The bus from Logan to Woods Hole where you catch the ferry is about $40 / ticket for $2,000 total. The ferry to Marthas Vineyard about is about $40 / ticket for $2,000 total. So DeSantis could’ve spent about $24,000 for largely the same effect but instead spent 25 that times amount of taxpayer money.
It was clearly a stunt to get attention. But at the end of the day the island is a welcoming place with 1000s of empty beds and unlimited resources and from early MSNBC accounts the migrants enjoyed their 24 hour stays. It's a different story now that the lawyers have gotten to them.
sure the island is a nice place but that doesn’t change that DeSantis spent a bunch of Florida’s money for no benefit to Florida. One would think in the midst of hurricane season that the governor might have other things to think about with Florida’s resources.
Venezuela is one of the richest countries in resources in the world. I wonder who meddled and destabilized their economy? Can you guess who? I've met tons of Venezuelans in the Woodlands. They're actually very nice and successful people in their country but fled because of the crime wave. Now they do Uber food or something like that here.
Now that attention is here, what's next? What's the solution to undocumented immigration? This thread started in 2018 and I have seen many proposals on this issue by multiple members on this forum. I don't think I've seen anything from you. What do you think we should do to solve this issue?
What do you think about your governor using money budgeted specifically for sending unauthorized aliens from Florida, instead using that money to send asylum seekers from Texas? Again, I apologize if I've missed your answer.
Seriously? I posted the section of the budget where it specifically refers to "unauthorized" aliens and "out of Florida". It may be questionable if the asylum seekers were unauthorized, but it is without a doubt that he flew them from Texas. C'mon. You're smarter than that. You can't even reply with "yeah, based on the budget item, it certainly appears that he abused that authority"
Exactly why we are awesome. We are a nation of rules and laws, norms and processes, and migrants do have some protection under our Constitution. Also, it is legal to seek Asylum.
https://www.npr.org/2022/09/15/1123109768/migrants-sent-to-marthas-vineyard "One flight took off from San Antonio and made a stop in Florida and South Carolina before landing in Martha's Vineyard. The second flight also stopped in Florida, but made another stop in Charlotte, North Carolina, before landing in Martha's Vineyard." Unethical as it may have been, technically, I think he's in the clear with regards to the budget issue.
Oh..I know the 'theatrics' of it and I mentioned the stop in Florida as his probable tactic before, but you know that is a bullshit stunt (having the plane stop in Florida) - correct? Also, asylum seekers are not "unauthorized" and most, if not all, of the immigrants are asylum seekers.
Correct, but you understand why he did it, right? You just said it was "questionable": "It may be questionable if the asylum seekers were unauthorized, but it is without a doubt that he flew them from Texas."
The class action lawsuit Fraud. DeSantis took responsibility and said they voluntarily traveled and signed consent forms. I don't do law, but I'm pretty sure consent based on fraud is not a good defense.
You know all of the suburbia because you grew up with maybe 50 other suburban families in a specific place? You know the suburbia is not the same in Texas as it is in Virginia right? I guess you don't have an issue with stereo typing, right? Why do not give any credit to the suburbanites who actually swung the election presidentially as well as senatorial? That's why I asked why are you so angry because you are stereotyping a huge swath of people and not giving them any credit, you sound just like the people you rail against just from the opposite position.
According to the lawsuit... They were not just authorized but legally allowed to stay in the US awaiting proceeding. Plaintiffs are recent immigrants who fled from Venezuela—a place subject to a Level 4 “Do Not Travel” advisory by the United States Department of Health due to rampant crime, civil unrest, poor health infrastructure, kidnapping, terrorism and wrongful 1 Concurrently with the filing of this Complaint, the individual Plaintiffs have filed a motion to be allowed to proceed under pseudonyms. After crossing the United States border, the Plaintiffs immediately surrendered themselves to federal immigration officials, and each has—and at all times pertinent to the allegations in this Complaint has had—active federal proceedings to adjudicate their immigration status. Unless and until determined otherwise after the due process to which they are entitled, Plaintiffs are authorized by federal immigration officials to remain in the United States.
What they are describing is a concept known as "apathy". Now I'm not certain about this but I'm sure there have been times on this forum where you maybe made broad statements about entire generation of people being apathetic maybe to voting or something? You've never attributed types of people as apathetic?
