Maldy has over 10 yrs of service time but "only" made about $23M in his career.

    I don't see him giving up a guaranteed $4.5M for 2023.

And it's not like he is obsolete or in the way. If he retires, the team will need to scramble to fill his spot and the staff and pitchers will not be happy (not enough to be a big issue but some)

It may effect JVs decision to resign or not.

The entire team and Korey Lee will benefit from him playing next season

Young starting pitchers who are established and have years of control remaining ( and no injury risk) are extremely valuable.

    LoL “no injury risk”.

Garcia is a 2-3 war pitcher with 4 years of control left. So I may be underestimating his value some. And with Brown’s emergence it’s possible Garcia could be shopped although I am still skeptical any team will value him enough to see him as the sole/primary piece in a deal for a controllable star outfielder.

Urquidy is a 1.5-2.5 war pitcher with 3 years of control remaining. No rebuilding team is going to want him, and no contender is likely to value him very highly; I strongly suspect if that wasn’t the case he would have been traded at the deadline this season.

I don’t think it’s possible to make a worse decision than bringing actually paying Brantley to bring him back. He already lost all his thump. Now he’s got a messed up shoulder and he’s 35. Hardest of all possible hard passes unless you are talking about non roster invitation. It’s more likely than not that he’s completely done, and the chances of him being a positive bat after major surgery on shoulder is very very small.

I think you are right. If you were looking to trade someone for a star it would probably have to be Framber.
The Blue Jays have a ton of high end catching prospects. I wonder what it would take to pry their fat ass horrific body all star catcher from them.

Michale Brantley’s obituary as an impact bat in MLB. Someone suggested we bring him back. I suggest that’s a terrible idea.

That’s what I want in a Lf or 1B. 250/350/500. Someone who changed the scoreboard by himself. I can’t imagine there is any way that’s him going forward. If he’s a donkey in LF at MMP I don’t really care. Cue Brad Pitt anyone can play first base Gif.

Framber is an ACE. You do not trade that for a single outfielder unless his name is Ohtani.

Shouldn't be a problem to find a corner guy 1st/LF/DH next year.

Your cue Pitt anyone is one of the worst, single dumbest, ****ing phrases that has ever been uttered in a mediocre sports movie.

Perhaps you should consider the possibility that his shoulder surgery corrects his hitting problem. I would be delighted to have him at DH and getting an occasional start in LF when needed.

All pitchers have some injury risk. I get that but neither of these two have had any injury issues since debuting in MLB.

I think it's difficult to swap major league players for each other these days. Hopefully the offseason will open up more options. Maybe they can reroute all of their trades through Tampa to help ease their yearly 40 man issues.

The bottom line is that if Verlander is resigned and I think there is next to zero chance he isn't then a starting pitcher needs to be traded.

Brown needs a chance in the rotation next season. He has potential that few pitcher's do. He could win a Cy Young in 3-5 years.

Or he could never reach that potential.

But the team must find out by giving him 25+ starts in the majors next year.

In today's game, a team simply must have 6 starting pitchers available. But unless one can be stashed in AAA or the bullpen 7 is a big problem.

Having Urquidy, Garcia, or Javier in the bullpen is simply a waste. Each one has proven to be a capable MLB starter.

The team is much much better off using one of them to fill a hole in the lineup and field without taking the salary space that a FA would require.

After all Alvarez, Framber, Tucker, Stanek, Javier, and Urquidy not to mention Verlander are all going to cost a lot more in 2023 than they did in 2022

If Hunter Brown can learn to locate that slider it would not surprise me if he had a career similar to someone like David Price.

    Special talent.

The Astros need to figure out how to get Verlander, Tucker, and Framber under contract and there window may last until the late 2020's

A lot of playoff contenders could have really used him. Orioles, Guardians, Brewers, Twins, Phillies, Cardinals, Rays, & Blue Jays could all really use him.
