Bigger news is that Putin finally declared a "partial" mobilization that in reality gives the Russian government the authority to draft anyone into the "special military operation." Also, all existing soldiers are having their contracts indefinitely extended so they can't run out the clock anymore. I imagine they'll start closing borders and ban men from leaving Russia at some point. The nuclear threats get the headlines but the mobilization is the big headline. This is basically his final stand as a leader because if the war continues to go poorly and drafted ethnic Russians die en masse, I'm pretty sure Putin may not stick around. Sending non-ethnic Russians and people from Siberia into war was one thing, but once they start drafting everyday Russians from the cities, then they're really playing with fire.
