All in all, the news today is mixed for the Rockets. It likely increases the value of a pick the Rockets already gave up to OKC, but it could make a pick they own from Brooklyn more valuable to use or trade.

Like you said, it's a sunk cost - nothing the Rockets can do to get it back.

The double draft is probably a good thing to have picks in, though after the double draft, I'd say that the value of draft picks overall gets lower due to the (potentially) higher uncertainty of drafting 18 year olds vs. 19 year olds.

That's an interesting perspective. I also may be wrong on this, but the Rockets may value, at that point of the rebuild, more experienced prospects. Obviously talent always wins out, but a pick of an Ochai Agbaji over an Ousmane Dieng might make more sense for Houston at that stage.

Periodic reminder that despite our optimistic outlook, the disastrous Russell Westbrook trade still lingers over our heads, and those obligations are still to come.

And further, a reminder that we still have the worst owner in the NBA who can swoop in at any moment and derail the organization with his "Shut up and Listen" isms.

Sure hope Green, Bari and our next guy are amazing, because if not, things get hairy very quickly.

I may be wrong as the level of HS/U18 scouting, with all the IMG academies and stuff, is probably much better now, though you're going to end up with the occasional Skal Labissiere in the top 5.

He wasn’t willing to pay LT for the one of the greatest teams in Rockets history, on top of driving off an elite coach and GM.

Unless TF learned some huge lesson from his arson job, this team starts to unravel the second the rookie contracts turn into large salary.

I’d love to try to get a 2025 for Eric gordon . even a 26’ (depending on protection) .

The double draft will be a story , but some players will chose to stay in college if their draft stock falls too far .

You may pick up a guy at 20 that would have been a lottery pick if not for the highschool guys coming in .

or if they stay you may have a deep draft between 10-20 next year .

IMO the overall pool of basketball talent is increasing. Does this change anything internationally ?

The g-league has seen an explosive investment. Not only the rockets are using it like a minor league system .

if you have some fungible young talent that you can call up that could be worth wins and/or rest for your top rotation .

and the more shots you take , prospect wise, the more hits you get .

    no Longer the Dleague .

the best thing is that you don’t even have to use picks . Some teams still get guys for salary purposes. Or trade away picks .

OKC has all those picks . They could assemble a 5 man aau team to run the g-league for a year and being em up towards the end to get their feet wet .

Did you know josh Smith and Dwight Howard played on the same AAU team ?

If Robert Sarver's team can go to the finals, I'm hoping TF can stop being an ass long enough to pay for contending team again. I haven't heard from him as much during this rebuild lately so I'm hoping he's realized he's not a basketball genius and will just let the front office do their jobs.

Patrick Baldwin Jr, Emoni Bates, and Jaden Hardy are perfect examples of this. All 3 were considered top-5 level talent coming out of HS.

Then you add in these programs like Overtime Elite where the Thompson twins currently play, but with inferior competition. How much can you really take away from those games? Scouting these kids is
becoming harder and harder, and all of this just increases the risk for organizations.

This does remind me, in the Breakfast Club, Judd Nelson's leap onto the stairwell in the library is very impressive. You watch that again he first has to jump onto a four foot card catalog, then pull himself another 6 feet onto the stairwell before his feet can get a hold. So like highschoolers, hell ya. But this is no breakfast club. We seem them as we want to see them.

Did I miss something in your article, Clutch? A lot of people turned their attention to ownership immediately. Was there a curtain on your article I failed to look behind?
