Damn! The GOP and Trump supporters were so worried about the sanctity of this election but it looks like they were the ones cheating. The story just keeps getting deeper and deeper. It's a good reason why it's best to not try and just look at the capitol breach on 1/6. The planning, and plans were all in place before. It was all coordinated. Great job by the Jan. 6th committee getting the information and evidence out there.

My etymological sensitivity made me cringe. 'Soviet' means 'council,' and was a basic building block of representative democracy in a new communist Russia before it devolved into permanent dictatorship. Intimidating enemies of the regime is definitely something they did in the Soviet Union, but not because of their soviet precursors but in spite of them. And it's definitely not the only word you can use there. A better word would have been 'fascist' which harkens back to the imperial power of Rome. 'Stalinist' is good too, if you want to make sure to keep the association with communism. 'Repressive' or 'authoritarian' can work in a more generic way. Carlson and many Americans redefine 'soviet' to mean 'totalitarian'. I can appreciate the irony of a dictatorship calling itself democratic, but it is indeed irony -- which is lost if we forget what soviet is actually supposed to mean.

 

The fake elector scheme, and pressuring secretaries of state to fudge the numbers like he did with Georgia is where he has the most liability. The 1/6 attack planning seems to all come to fruition from a conspiracy standpoint at the Willard Hotel. I think you are much more likely to see Roger Stone, Alex Jones, Rudy, Mike Flynn, and Steve Bannon to be the key targets for the violence in terms of a conspiracy. And every single one of those guys will take the fall for Trump. Every single one will bank on him being able to get them out of jail either via pardon, or through his funding mechanisms/international relationships with crooked dictators. Paul Manafort is probably a very rich man now after taking the fall for Trump from money he can get off the books from Trump's dictator allies Russia, Saudi, UAE, etc.

So yeah with 1/6 from a violent insurrection standpoint, I do think Trump will likely avoid being indicted, but I wouldn't be surprised if at least half of those Willard hotel guys get indicted on some form on seditious conspiracy. I mean they did it right in front of our faces.

It's hard to see Trump weaseling his way out of the MAL case though. He seems pretty much dead to rights, and I think DOJ will pursue this one to the end. Will he serve actual jail time if indicted? Will he actually go to trial in the next 5 years? Will the Supreme Court step in and save him when appeals come flying their way?? Who knows. The judicial system is messy and relies on good faith judges who follow the law which we might or might not have in this case. It also relies on 12 unbias jurors which in Trump's case will be impossible to find in the United States or much of the developed world.

Either way it won't save us from him being the GOP nominee in 24 even if he's under indictment. He's still going to run. He's still going to try to cheat with both foreign government interference, state reps trying to overturn results, and GOP Congress at the federal level being willing to use the 12th amendment levers to put him back in office even if he loses.

I know @jiggyfly will accuse me of being an alarmist so I do want to clarify that THIS IS HIS PLAN, and not what I think the actual results will be. Stating his plan isn't admitting defeat of Democracy. We know he's running, we know he can run even if he's under indictment, and we know he'll be easily beatable IF Democrats run a decent campaign, and Congress right now put in place more checks in the system as they have been saying they plan to do to clarify some of the electoral loopholes Trump was trying to exploit in 20.

I think Democracy will be fine, but we need to be prepared, and wake up to what this lunatic is trying to do.

Trump and his lawyers don't want to admit he didn't declassify all those documents. He doesn't want his supporters knowing he was lying, even though they should know by now his truth is just a load of fiction.
