This is why I wasn’t that concerned about having a special master. Anyone who the DOJ would agree to would also follow the law and not just be a stooge for Trump. Also the DOJ is unlikely to indict Trump before the Midterms. They also have already completed their review of the documents. The DOJ has the upper hand here.

The question for me though is will they act on it? From what is publicly known already they could charge Trump but we’ve seen this situation before where Trump associates get charged, indicted and not Trump because the DOJ either doesn’t want to indict a sitting President or is very cautious regarding a former President.

it would be unconscionable to not eventually indict Trump after all of this…it would be indefensible

I was concerned with how Trump was allowed to shop for some hack loose Cannon judge to do his bidding…6 of the 11 judges on the 11th Circuit where the appeal is taking place are Trump appointed, and although there were Trump appointed judges who ruled against his bogus election fraud cases, who knows if they will be like Aileen Cannon

I also wonder if they’ll successfully prevent some braindead MAGA mindless drone who doesn’t believe in facts or evidence from squirming their way onto a jury when the time comes

I would like to think it would be unconscionable to not indict Trump but I’m still flabbergasted Trump hasn’t been indicted in the Stormy Daniel’s situation or with Weiselberg. In both those situations very close associates were convicted and Trump literally signed the checks.

I honestly never expected much from those cases…this case tho is huge and a matter of national security, and I see no fall guy Trump can pin this on to eat most of the charges

FBI loses all credibility if they can’t or won’t even indict Trump for this

In a filing to the court-appointed special master that Trump requested, his attorneys said the “time and place” for making such a disclosure would come in a motion in a criminal trial as an effort to recover his property.

“Otherwise, the Special Master process will have forced the Plaintiff to fully and specifically disclose a defense to the merits of any subsequent indictment '
without such a requirement being evident in the District Court’s order,” Trump’s legal team wrote.

so, Trump lawyers believe that there will be an indictment

    https://www.businessinsider.com/for...ed-trump-about-keeping-classified-docs-2022-9

former White House lawyer Eric Herschmann warned former president Donald Trump about the legal risk of holding on to presidential records and classified documents.

The meeting with Herschmann — who was no longer serving as legal counsel for the former president at the time — occurred in late 2021, nearly a year after Trump left office

Herschmann stressed the significant legal liability of maintaining the classified records and the possibility that Trump or his aides engaged in obstruction through storing them.

The following January, Trump returned the first batch of documents to the National Archives and Records Administration. It contained letters from North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un,
who Trump said he exchanged "beautiful" love letters with while in office, and a letter that former President Barack Obama left for Trump in 2017.

In the historic August 8 search of Mar-a-Lago, the FBI found 12 additional boxes worth of documents Trump had retained in his Palm Beach, Florida, home.

Agreed, he must be prosecuted, will he go to jail? I doubt it simply for the fact that I dont think either side wants that, he could be a martyr for the gop, but I also dont see him riding off into the sunset, I don't know what the end game is, but what I really want is a GUITLY verdict. I could see him making a plea deal so he could technically say he was not guilty and it was a witch hunt, but how does this end? When will the gop finally give up on him and move on.........I don't really see that happening anytime soon. when trump first got in the race and cruz and company were saying what an idiot this guy is they were on point, but they sold there soul and now there stuck with him, and I am afraid it will take the gop to burn itself down to build it back up

True those cases don’t have the national security implications but they still are serious and Michael Cohen did time for the Stormy Daniel’s case and Weiselberg will for tax evasion. Trump was not just a party to those cases but the one who financed them and benefitted from the actions of those convicted.

the party is being taken over by MAGA…Trump in his Ohio rally the other day said his candidates are doing better than Republicans and that Republicans are doing very badly

All these people who claim “I don’t like Trump, I’m a DeSantis guy” can’t see what’s happening? Is DeSantis beating Trump in a 2024 race? Hell no. If DeSantis were to ever step out of line, he would get kicked out of the party by MAGA. Trump already takes shots at him here or there, imagine what would happen if Ron is running against him.

Mitch McConnell isn’t even safe…I doubt he wants all these MAGA people and incompetents like Herschel and Oz, but he better not say much or he’s done

“Hang Mike Pence!” chants because he dared to not help them in their plot to overturn the election

cowards like Teddie and Lady G fell in line quick…no integrity, no pride, no shame

he had easy fall guys for those cases, and he’s a master of getting away with not doing time for a scam or some sort of tax evasion

This case is so much bigger, has so much more spotlight, and who’s the fall guy? I don’t see how the DOJ maintains credibility with the majority of the public if they don’t even indict on this one.

No criminal stealing highly classified documents that could put this country at risk should ever be a martyr for anyone. Who knows if he committed, or had intentions of selling secrets for personal favors or money. If anyone would sell their soul to the devil it would be a man like Trump.

If he is proven guilty he should fry. He shouldn't get any special treatment whatsoever. Anyone against that is a hypocrite when it comes to justice for all.

I feel like his legal team could be fall guys. They certified the stuff was returned. He could try and blame whoever packed the boxes in the first place as well. I think there are a few ways that he could try to possibly avoid responsibility for this. I don't know if anything will work.

he’d have a better shot of blaming them if he hadn’t been running his mouth in interviews and on social media implicating himself

That's very true. The whole time, he's been his own worst enemy. He's done more damage to his image, his legal chances, his legacy than any Democrat ever could.
