I do think it’s weird that when dusty was with the media today, not a single one of them mentioned it.. they had to be told not to ask right? And if that’s the case, seems kinda weird and maybe a bit serious. Probably not, but crazy they didn’t even ask tho. Had to be told.
Neither Chandler Rome or Brian McTaggart were covering the game tonight. They would have asked had they been there. Julia Morales ain't going to ask Dusty that.
https://www.mlb.com/astros/news/jose-urquidy-struggles-again-in-loss-to-athletics Whole body of work is Dusty's excuse to pitch the pitcher currently struggling over better options in the playoffs. Any questions about why "in spite of Dusty" is a real thing? If Javier isn't the 4th starter, it's in spite of Dusty. Maybe you can make a case for Garcia over Brown, but it wouldn't be a good one. And Javier's success as a reliever is overstated. He's a STARTER who didn't STINK as a reliever. I must say here that I'm counting on the report being real and not a fantasy interview. But as usual, I'm skeptical.
Edited out - I was speaking with Hank (Corn Pop) Aaron this morning and he said to stick with the struggling guy.
What don't you understand? Luhnow nor Hinch will never be part of the Astros as long as Crane owns them. If Dusty wins a WS, Crane will give him the option to stay.
Clinched playoff birth. 14 game lead in the division, 7.5 game lead in the AL Best record, on pace for 102-107 wins. Hmmm..
baker served his purpose when he navigated the first season after the scandal. No reason to keep him beyond this year.
They are probably suggesting somebody who has never been a non-interim manager. I prefer experience when inheriting a juggernaut, and while I don't agree with Dusty's decisions 100%, there are rumors from insiders that not everything is 100% decided by him, and, like it or not, he managed GREAT throughout the ALCS and even WS considering our pitching staff was decimated with injuries, and he pieced together the bullpen well.
i don’t know who are the available candidates, but I think so little of Dusty I almost don’t care. I trust Crane and Click (or next GM) to upgrade. I’ll take Espada right now. I watch nearly every game and Dusty does dumb things on a regular basis. Not judgement calls where reasonable minds can disagree. Too many to recount but off the top of my head, I recall he burned a Yordan PH appearance with first base open when it was obvious they would simply walk him. As for judgment calls, I can’t stand his lineup decisions where Dubon or his ilk hit in the top half of the order. I think Dusty has done a decent job of managing the pitching staff. I credit our pitching coaches and SP for making life relatively easy this regular season. I don’t want Dusty making judgment calls this postseason, but don’t have a choice. I have resigned myself to the fact that Yuli will be at 1B, and either Diaz or Mancini will be on the bench. I am honestly surprised when the lineup is not a mess.
Click needs to intervene and say Javier is SP4 in the playoffs, period. Urquidi gives up too much contact and, in the postseason, good teams take advantage. You have to give Javier the chance to put up 5-6 scoreless innings. He has that kind of stuff. The only reason to deviate from that is if we need 2 innings from Javier earlier in the series. But if it’s game 1 or 2, I could argue that Javier should still get the ball to start Game 4.
Honest question...I have asked this before on this board and never got any info... Do you recall any decisions that Baker made in last year's world series that you would consider egregious or perplexing?
Nope. Honestly, I thought he handled it fine. That said, I didn’t have a lot of confidence in him then, and don’t now either.
I’ve answered this before: no- he managed just fine in the playoffs WS. Like, night and day different than the regular season. Like, someone else was making all the decisions so different. Then, we hear from Nook that basically this is the rumor and it all falls into place. if he has to go into puppet mode to be competent he needs to be in puppet mode all regular season too. It’s so irritating to see so many sub optimal decisions. Teams work too hard to get minor little advantages to do stuff like hit Goodrum leadoff.
In no particular order: Cash Cora Melvin (by reputation, not me own knowledge or insight) Snicker (same) Hinch Nobody is perfect but I want analytically driven + people skills.
