Maldonado the Tornado! Wouldn't be something if he and Gurriel started hitting consistently during the playoffs.?
See, Dusty, Chas can keep runners from going first to third too, not just Dubon. And he runs better routes, too.
Hard to believe this is all falling apart for Framber making history. The one thing he has had going for him this entire streak is the fact he gives up the lowest HR rate in the majors. He will need to lean on that right now to get the record. If he gets out of this, please have some sense and pull him Dusty.
If both Framber and JV are on their games and 1 other starter steps up, we will be very hard to beat in a 7 game series.
What game are you watching? Two terrible pitchers have combined to give up 6 ER in less than 6 innings. That's an ERA over 9.
Sigh, this is where comparison is a killjoy. By run prevention (e.g. ERA), they were similar but otherwise the seasons were very different. Framber is having a very good season (top 5 Cy Young). Cole had an unbelievable season and had a legit argument to be the Cy Young over Verlander. He had the innings, the advanced stats, the newspaper numbers (e.g. 20wins). He was a legit one man wrecking crew who didn't need a top notch defense at his back. His strikeout:walk numbers were insane. He struck out ~40% of batters over an ENTIRE SEASON (13.8k/9). Ridiculously low walk rate (2.0 bb/9). A good rule of thumb for how good a pitcher is doing is K% minus BB%. Anything above 25% is considered elite. Cole's K-BB% was 34% that year. That's crazy high. For reference season leader in K-BB% over the last few years were: 2022: Ohtani 25.5% 2021: Burnes 30.4% 2020: Bieber 34.0% 2019: Cole 34.0% 2018: Verlander 30.4% Bieber had a great 2020, but that was the truncated Covid year. Otherwise you don't see pitchers dominate to that level over 200+ IP. I don't always love fWAR for pitchers, cuz I think it leans heavily towards advanced stats over what actually happened, but for reference Framber was at 3.9 fWAR entering today's game. He'll probably finish the season in the 5.0 fWAR range. Absolutely a great season....... Cole was worth 7.5 fWAR in 2019.
Thinking that was sarcasm from the way to soon posts in the 1st and 2nd innings saying the Astros were getting worked by a 5 ERA pitcher.
Oh ok I just didn't realize the timing of the post, I've been watching football and I thought it was posted in the 6th inning.
